Earth Wind & Fire's Got To Get You Into My Life is a remake of a Beatles song – Duh! – which first appeared on the 1966 Revolver album. It was released as a single in 1976 to help promote the Beatles' 28-track Rock 'N' Roll Music compilation and reached #7 on the Hot 100 in July. The song has been recorded by more than 180 artists including Ella Fitzgerald, John Pizzarelli, Lou Rawls, Thelma Houston, Chris Clark, Morgana King, Andrew Gold, Beegie Adair and Blood Sweat & Tears. The Four Tops recorded the song for their 1969 Soul Spin album:

Feel free to sing along. You know the tune.

"Forget ELO and Jackson Browne
Barry and the gay guys know how to get down
Their songs are cool, their songs are funky
Call me a Manilow/Village People junkie

Sad, sad, sad sadchild
I gotta be a sad sadchild
I think good songs are bad and bad songs are wild
And that makes me a sad sadchild"

My brain can't handle this.
It's an age thing. It's also why I love so many more songs from 1989-1992.

Macho Man ain't a good song but it's a fun one. Copacabana isn't my thing musically but I like story..

Mr Blue Sky does nothing for me. ELO does, but not that song. It's practically a broadway number. Yech. And like we discussed earlier, that third singer who comes in on Stay makes my ears bleed. Who gave that guy? girl? a microphone?!

Understood.

Understood. We play Copa in the community band, so I get it.

Here's where I lose you. Each of these is the concert closer for the respective artist (when they anchor a concert). It's why people come out to see them. So I'd understand if you just didn't like the artists; but to like them and yet categorize their most iconic songs as "bad" seems weird. Kinda like the Heart and Rod Stewart thing. You like the artists, and I'd understand if you preferred their newer stuff because it's more in your era. But they're both rockers, and I'd think that you'd at least have some regard for their rock classics (the ones their fans come out to see). But their big rockers are "bad" in the world of sadchild. Odd.

BTW, there's a studio version of Load-out/Stay, which might annoy you less. But again, there are many songs I like/love, which might also have an annoying part. Probably half of the songs by The Police. I don't use the brief annoyance to dislike the whole song.

I would not classify either song as 'bad'. I like Mr. Blue Sky. Neutral on the Jackson Browne song. But both of these songs are near the bottom of my known ranked songs list for each artist. I am surprised ELO actually uses that as their anchor song. And "Stay" was not played at all when I saw Jackson Browne. He closed with "Running On Empty".

I was not disputing that they do use that song to close. But that does not make me any less surprised. I would have thought something like "Don't Bring Me Down" would be a better choice. But I am not Jeff Lynne and people don't spend $300 a ticket to see me so what do I know. But I am still surprised.

I remember that now. I think we had this discussion last time "Stay" came up.

It's got the nostalgia and the orchestration at the end. It brings back happy memories for people, and they all sing and clap along. I noticed this when they aired it (repeatedly) on PBS a number of years ago.
