Mister Hectic, if you think Jim Croce's Time In A Bottle is a downer, wait till you hear Eddie Kendricks' horrible cringeworthy version. Or maybe you won't want to hear it. Kendricks was lead singer of the Temptations from 1960 to 1971 and had several 1970s solo hits including Boogie Down, Shoeshine Boy, Keep On Truckin' and Son Of Sagittarius. This is from his 1974 album For You:

Paul Davis's I Go Crazy was on the Hot 100 for 40 weeks in 1977-78. At the time, that was a record – no pun intended. The current record-holder – no pun intended – for most weeks on the Hot 100 is Glass Animals' Heat Waves, 91 weeks in 2021-22.

Van Halen's You Really Got Me is a remake of a 1964 #7 hit by the Kinks. The song was written by Ray Davies. Here is a version by Sly & The Family Stone from their 1982 album Ain't But The One Way. This was their tenth album and, as it turned out, their final album. It was the only one that failed to make the Billboard 200 album chart.

Grand Funk's Some Kind Of Wonderful – not to be confused with the same-titled song that was written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King and was a hit for the Drifters in 1961 – was written by Willie John Ellison, lead singer of the Soul Brothers Six, an R&B group from Rochester, New York. They released 11 singles, 1966-76, and only two were hits.....barely. They recorded Some Kind Of Wonderful on March 30, 1967. It was released as a single in May and was on the Hot 100 for only one week, at #91. Their follow-up single, What Can You Do When You Ain't Got Nobody, also written by Ellison, stalled at #107 on the Bubbling Under chart.
