The first television theme song to reach number one on the Hot 100 was TSOP (The Sound Of Philadelphia) by MFSB & The Three Degrees in April 1974., Lest you try to make something dirty out of MFSB, I will tell you that it stands for "Mother, Father, Sister, Brother." MFSB was a group of Philadelphia studio musicians. TSOP, the theme of Soul Train, also went to number one on the R&B chart and – surprisingly – the adult contemporary chart.

The 12-inch single of TSOP was 5:42. The 45-rpm single was 3:29. Here is a 9:52 remix.
