I love how in some translations, the line is...

Thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbor's wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbor's.

But what if he works out a lot?

So I'm back to watching Jesus christ superstar.

This show really makes me want to believe. It's such a nice story abt a guy who was also God who gave himself for us.

I grew up a methodist. I want to think my catholic mom wasn't wrong or my scientist dad gets to hang w her even tho he didn't believe.

I'm trying to be a Christian . The logical part of my mind says fuck u. But the feeling part wants to say go for it.

Sorry guys. I've been struggling for years. Not sure how to come to a conclusion.

So think I got recruited into a cult today. jehovah witness. Dude came in the office and stayed way too long and was super convincing. I'm not really supposed to force ppl out unless their rude and he was the opposite of that. We don't really have a policy abt ppl just wasting our time.

I said it nicer than this but asked him why they're weird Christians. I mean u think normal Christian u think catholic or protestant. (Both have issues I know, but come on their the normal ones). Like I know the mormans have this third Bible book. Not sure what jehovah witness do besides not celebrate birthdays and the artist formerly known as prince was one of them. He couldn't really tell me, just invited me to a "gathering".

Pretty sure I'm not gonna do that. But he was a nice fella. Glad he's so into his beliefs. It'd be nice to be so sure....but if that happens, kinda leaning methodist, as I've told u guys.

Many years ago one of my cousins and her husband decided to become Jehovah's Witnesses. They told everyone in the family to quit buying birthday gifs and Christmas gifts for them and their son and daughter. We all felt bad for the kids. They didn't understand why they could no longer celebrate Christmas. After a couple of years, my cousin and her husband decided being Jehovah's Witnesses was not for them.

Baptist minister Walter Martin published The Kingdom Of The Cults in 1965. The book is now in its sixth printing. I highly recommend it. Among the many cults he exposes are Jehovah's Witnesses, Scientology and Mormonism (Latter-Day Saints).

Not really Christian but I heard this for the first time today and thought it was cool.

Apparently AC/DC's road manager Barry Taylor dropped a philosophical bomb at at some point when asked what he thought about God:

"God is the name of the blanket we throw over the mystery to give it shape."

Well I said this almost exactly 6 years ago in the first post of this thread:

I think I will start going back to Church.

And I haven't. I think in all that time I have gone once in Melbourne with my aunt and uncle.

But I am currently getting as close as ever to going back. I watched a full local church service on Youtube today and I have never done that before.

As I also said in the OP I grew up in the United Methodist Church so I would like to go back to one of those if I find a good one. My idea of church is a small (ish) congregation. Those mega churches are a clear no go for me. Also I want it to be traditional. If I see some dude in his 20's playing guitar from the pulpit area I want to stab myself in the eyeballs. Church should have like an organ and a choir. No fancy new age bullshit. But then I also want to go to a church that is cool with gays. However I don't want the preacher wearing like a rainbow robe while preaching. Like I don't want the progressive shit to take the main stage.

Finding this (I thought) would be a herculean task but turns out it only took 20 mins of searching to find one that met all those requirements and is only 4 miles from me.

Apparently in 2019 shit went down at the UMC yearly conference and there was a civil war. A bunch of the church officials didn't want to recognize gay marriage or clergy. So those people split from the UMC and created the Global Methodist Church in 2022. That worked out well for me. I get to go back to the church I grew up in and it meets all my criteria. Also in 2025 the UMC officially started allowing clergy to officiate gay marriages in the church along with allowing gay clergy.

So that was way easier than I thought. Here check out the service. It's all old people, which I like. Most of them are well dressed, which I like. They use a grand piano, which isn't an organ but I can accept it. They have a choir, which I like. And there are no electric guitars or any weird shit like that. Plus the in person congregation is a small group.

This worked out perfectly. I'm very seriously considering going alone, in person, next Sunday.

I did not watch the entire video but it reminded me of a church my wife and I attended in our old neighborhood from time to time.
Nice, clean, modern with music a little folk, some upbeat guitar. That church is also my district site for voting

I finally did it.

I was a bit nervous cause going alone feels kinda weird but as I knew would happen, everyone was very nice. I got to talking to a bunch of people before the service started and these two older ladies and one of their husbands were delightful. They have this section of the service where they ask everyone if they would like to share anything (prayer requests, good news, etc.) and the one lady I was speaking with pre-service announced that I was a new guy and wanted to welcome me. It was very sweet. (That's at 26:50).

I really like the Reverend too. I have now seen 2 of her sermons (one streamed and the other in person) and I enjoyed them both.

Here it is......if you FF to 15:24 you can see my fat ass on the far right side in the middle of the frame. That black guy behind me is the husband of the woman who announced my welcome.

I liked it a lot. I will be going back next week.

Oh and during the sermon the Reverend preached about regular people just being good and how that's as awesome as like huge philanthropists. She mentioned her grandmother and how she would always tell the preacher after every service how it was the best sermon she ever heard, no matter what, to be nice. So when she said goodbye to everyone at the door at the end I told her "that was the best sermon I've ever heard in my life". She got a real kick out of that.

I bet you look around the room, and feel satisfaction, knowing you probably have a bigger TV than any of them.

That's how St. Peter decides admission to heaven: the size of your TV.

Lady preachers, cool with gays, a fully integrated congregation and the service is in English not Latin?

I don't think any of us in that room will get anywhere near St Peter.

He's also the only one in the room that knows how to program their tv remote control.

Why would any of them need a clicker or have to worry about programming it? All anyone could ever need is CBS, NBC and ABC. And if we want to get crazy that new fangled PBS. But I don't trust anything from the sinful year of '69 so this family will never be watching that.
