Enjoy The Ride Records will be releasing their TMNT green ooze and turtle filled vinyl variant, which makes it the first 7" liquid filled vinyl record.

A better question is why the heck did they choose that photo. A great album deserves a great cover, and an old photo of a random 19th century stick carrier does not qualify as great in my book. I believe this is one of those instances where the greatness of the music makes people think everything else about it is therefore also great. There are some album covers I've grown to like over time just because the music is so damn good.

Ariel Pink and Blood Orange are bands that get played on SiriusXMU. Not a fan of the former, but I like some of the collaborations with the latter.

This cover didn't deter anyone from buying the album. I think the key is to make the album recognizable when you're at the record store.

Now that I think about it, I don't typically remember what most of my favorite albums (musically) looked like, so I guess it's not important in the purchase decision. Certainly, there are good album covers that are memorable for the cover art (which we have a thread for).

I went out and bought this one on release day, and it's a bad cover.

Nope. I think for established bands, the cover rarely affects if people will buy it or not.

Of course there are exceptions...

I'd classify album art into these categories:

1. Good art that fits the music (see 70s Meat Loaf & Yes, 80s Asia)
2. Good art that doesn't fit the music
3. Stupid choice (That Pearl Jam above, Yes 90125/Big Generator)
4. Oh, look - it's the band/artist
5. Intentionally trying to be offensive/sexy/trendy/whatever (see the bad cover art thread for plenty of examples)
6. Not memorable

There's a lot of #2 out there.

I think that's how it works, but in another photo I thought I could see grooves on the front? Not sure if it's just the back shining through to the other side though
