On California's June 2 ballot is another half-cent sales tax hike. I'm voting no. I hope the measure fails. The money raised will supposedly go to help the homeless but will likely be wasted, same as all the billions of dollars raised from previous sales tax hikes. When I was a child, Glendale's sales tax was 4%. It's now 10.5%! Every few years another sales tax hike is on the ballot – and our stupid, gullible voters keep approving them: "Oh, we don't pay nearly enough taxes. Let's raise them."

I drive past this building a lot and today I noticed it while I was at a light and it made me all mad. Is a cool looking freaking building. Go look at a bank that was built in the past 20 years and it looks like a tiny little piece of shit whereas this thing looks like a beast. And it is a beast. It has survived every hurricane since 1972 and is still standing, whereas today's banks are basically built of straw.
I know it's survived since 1972 because I asked Gemini when it was built and I gave the intersection it's on. After that I was grumpy for the rest of my ride home about how current shit is built terribly and looks horrible compared to this thing that has survived past 54 years.

Yea, that's what Gemini said. "mid century modern brutalist" which apparently can be from the 50's to the 80's. That's when I gave her the cross streets to narrow down the exact date cause 30+ years is a wide spectrum.
Anyway I like it. It's angry but cool and somewhat pretty all at the same time. Shit. I should have moved this to the girly things thread.

Check out this one in GA. The Woodruff Health Sciences Center:
It's like art for men. The dude who designed this building was into Football and F1 and Hockey. It doesn't make you feel all feminine and force you to think girl thoughts to understand it like looking at a landscape or abstract painting.
Like how Van Gogh obviously needed a shrink to talk about his inner turmoil. His sunflowers were filled with his crybaby, woe is me, I'm gonna cut my ear off cause the world doesn't understand me.......type feelings. Van Gogh would have been into Ice Dancing and Dressage.
This building, on the other hand, says:
"Here I am motherfucker. I'm fucking cool and sexy and functional art and if you don't like me I don't fucking care you pussy. Hey Art Deco/Miami Modern.......Wanna talk shit about me? I'll kick your ass you little bitch."
