I Put My New Shoes On

During the vacation, we averaged 3 to 5 miles miles per day of walking. And that was the problem. Those Keens were fine for spending the day outdoors, or walking the beach at home. But they're not made for miles of walking.

Oh ok, that makes a lot more sense. Have you ever worn those sandals on days with miles of walking before? I think we all learn that lesson the hard way with some shoes or sandals we like at some point.

When I first started going back to Disney I wore my Birkenstock's on an Epcot day and by the end of the trip I had bloody wounds on the top of both feet where the top strap is and a nasty blister on my left foot. Now I wear the Birks in the car on the way there but I change into sneakers when I park.

Idrather is on the money with this:

I wear flip flop type shoes all summer except when going to work or somewhere I have to do a lot of walking.

It is still weird they took sooooooo long to heal. I don't have a memory of how long it took for my feet to heal which means it must have been well under 2 months because that would be very memorable. Your sandals got you way worse than mine apparently.

How long do you all think a pair of Nike Air Zoom Pegasus sneakers should last? I paid like $150 for them the first time I bought them and I just bought them again and they were on sale and it were $120.

I wore them everyday to work and I would wear them to Disney and basically everywhere I didn't wear my Birkenstocks.

Besides the Birks, these were the first expensive shoes I bought in a long time. Before these I went at least 4 years wearing nothing but $20 Walmart sneakers so I genuinely do not know how long name brand sneakers are supposed to last with heavy use.

What do you guys all think? I'm going to either feel shitty that I had to buy a new pair already or I'm going to feel great that it took this long until I had to buy a new pair.

After rereading your post, I've concluded that you never said how long the first pair lasted.

Yeah, I did that on purpose.

I want to hear what you guys think is a proper timeframe before I tell you how long I've had them.

I gave you the exact shoe and the price I paid along with how frequently they were worn.

I didn't want to poison the well by telling you all my timeframe until I heard what you guys thought was appropriate.

My shoes usually last me 4-5 years. But I wear sandals most of the summer. And they are black so they hide their wear so it is easier to hide damage.

Okay so it seems like you wear sneakers way less frequently than I but at the same time I'm pretty sure if we were to add together total hours worn, you would be well ahead of me if you only replace them every 5 years.

That's interesting to hear.

I mentioned the $20 Walmart sneakers I wore for years before I finally got these, Eagles Nikes. Those fuckers would only last like 3 or 4 months at best but since they were so cheap. It didn't bother me to just chuck them and get a new pair.

When I'm spending over 100 I kind of expect them to last significantly longer which they did but I have this nagging feeling they died too soon.

I know people say Birkenstocks last forever but that's bullshit. I kept track of my past two Birk purchases and it was almost exactly 2 years.

This is the note I kept on my phone:
Birks 4.4.24
New Birks 3.30.26
