Junk Drawers

All I wanted was some steak
Yet another thread I can't believe doesn't exist. And I went to the "Thread to find everything" thread, and saw there are no threads that start with "J". So here we go.

On one of the trivia game shows, it was pointed out that nearly every household has a junk drawer. Ours is in the kitchen, opposite all the drawers that have a purpose - like silverware, utensils, etc. It's the only shallow drawer that's on its own, and it's in a good "utility" area, with the coffee maker right on that counter. Here it is:

The most important feature is the package of coffee filters, which get accessed daily. And with 2 dogs and 2 cats, the lint roller gets a lot of use. There's all the light tools, scissors, box cutters, lots of tape, twine, small nails, and infrequently used dog meds. Also markers, toothpicks, and things that have no other home.

Do you have a junk drawer? Where is it? And what's in it?
 
I have several junk drawers pretty much one in each room. But the junk I use most often is loose on my desk or on the shelf on my right of my home desk (left of my work desk).
 
I have a junk drawer in the kitchen – I can hear Beavis and Butt-Head: "Mmm-heh-heh-heh, he said 'junk'" – that contains scissors, screwdrivers, pliers, a wrench, a hammer, screws and nails, razor blades, rubber bands, bag clips, a ruler and a few ID tags of cats that I used to have.

I have my last dog's collar and tags hanging from my bedroom door. We never tagged our cats as they are indoor only.

Do you? I now have a dog but for most of my life I had cats. Each one had a collar with an ID tag showing its name and my address and phone number. If one of them ran off and couldn't find his way back, whoever found him could phone me or bring him back – but that never happened. All my cats stayed nearby because they knew this is where their food is. They're long gone but I keep their tags.

Great topic Scotch.

Isn't everyone's in the kitchen opposite of all the drawers that have the stuff you actually need for the kitchen? That's how I grew up so that's how I have mine now. I just assumed that's how it goes.

And for me at least the small nails and thumbtacks and stuff like that they start out in their container but then eventually they just wind up loose in the junk drawer somehow. And then you have to search for the specific type you need when you want to hang a small picture frame or Make sure some wire is out of the way.

Oh and absolutely when you need tape you search the junk drawer. That's a given.

I'm at work but I'll post a pic of mine when I get home. I'm glad you posted first because otherwise I would have been embarrassed. But after seeing yours, mine is exactly the same.
