There have been more than a thousand school shootings and this is the first time prosecutors have gotten a murder conviction against the father of a shooter. The father can be found guilty of murder if the law determines that his actions directly contributed to the killings. Microsoft Copilot explains the 29 charges Colin Gray was convicted of:

"Second‑degree murder through reckless conduct — If a parent’s actions show extreme recklessness that creates a high risk of death, prosecutors can argue the parent is legally responsible for the resulting killings. In the Georgia case, jurors found that giving a minor a firearm and ignoring warning signs met this threshold.

Involuntary manslaughter — This applies when someone causes a death through criminal negligence. Providing a dangerous weapon to a child who later uses it to kill can qualify. Colin Gray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter on this basis as well.

Reckless endangerment and cruelty to children — These charges reflect a pattern of unsafe behavior that exposes minors or others to serious harm. In this case, Gray faced multiple counts of reckless conduct and cruelty to children, reinforcing the argument that his negligence contributed to the tragedy."

If I recall, the school previously met with the family about reported homicidal threats or writings. So the reckless behavior of the father did not occur in a vacuum.

Prosecutors accused Gray of buying his son an AR-15-style rifle as a Christmas present and allowing him access to that weapon and ammunition despite warnings that his son was a danger to others. Colt Gray, then 14, used that rifle to carry out a mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia, on September 4, 2024, killing two teachers and two students and wounding nine others.

Let's see if certain congressmen will be wearing those fucking AR15 pins again.

There is no reason ever to allow a kid to possess any sort of handgun or semi-auto.

Even if you are an avid hunting or just pro gun family in general there is no reason to allow a kid to possess any sort of gun unless they are being actively supervised by a parent or family member or some sort of adult.

Like If I want to teach my kid to shoot or go hunting with them I would go but when we got home the gun would go back in the safe where only I and or his mom had access.

As a driver, the goldfish has a much better safety record than Waymo, Cruise, Zoox, Nuro, Avride and Apollo Go.

It's a fun story, but the "world record" thing is asinine. You can't have a record for an event that never existed. Hell, Mrs. Scotch holds the world record for traveling up and down our driveway in a car. I probably hold the record for most scotch consumed in our neighborhood. Or maybe not.

Every feat that now qualifies as a "world record" had to have been done the first time by somebody. But I doubt we will ever see any other fish driving a car. Blub may always hold the world record in that category.

Google Gemini defines "world record" as "the highest, lowest, fastest, longest or otherwise best-verified performance in a specific measurable activity, sport or skill, recognized globally. These achievements are usually validated by organizations such as Guinness World Records, requiring strict adherence to rules, objectivity and breakability."

Guinness no longer tracks alcohol consumption records because of the health risks involved in heavy drinking – but here is the record holder for the largest bottle of scotch:
