It is that time of the year again.

Today was Opening Day for the Jays. And we were there. There is nothing more special than Opening Day. The Rogers Centre was sold out. They had lots of video highlights from last year. They lowered the banner for the AL Pennant with a note that we also won the AL East. They also introduced the team and all the support staff including the 3rd assistant trainer. They also introduced the Jays opening weekend opponent: the As. The video highlights had lots of great moments from the ALDS and the ALCS. The World Series highlights were missing. All fans got an AL Pennant and a magnet with the 2026 schedule.

The game was a tightly pitched contest. Kevin Guzman had his stuff. He struck out a record 10 batters through 6 innings of work. He pitched a perfect game through 3.1 innings. He then gave up a solo HR by Langiliers (the As catcher). This was the only run they got off him. The Jays got the lead with a 2 run triple by Giminez in the bottom of the 5th. The game stayed that way until the top of the 9th when we brought in Heart Attack Hoffman. First batter we did get to see an ABS challenge. A ball making the count 3-2 ball got turned into a K for the first out. But then Hoffman faced Langiliers again and gave up a solo HR. Giminez came to the plate again in the bottom of the 9th with 2 out and runners at second and third. He delivered a single up the middle to walk off the game 3-2. Only 2 players got RBIs in this game.

161 games to go. With the Yankees having a weird schedule of W-F-Sa series, the Jays are 1/2 game behind the Yankees. The Jays were amoung 6 teams to have their opening day today. All teams have now played at least 1 game.

We went to our first game from our flex pack tonight. The Jays were hosting the Colorado Rockies. Last July they went into Colorado for a 3 game series and completely trashed them. My son wanted a laugher. Well, Colorado seems to have a completely different team this year. On top of that our starter got injured in the 2nd inning. It became a long night. The Jays lost 14-5. The Jays backup catcher pitched the last 2 innings. So no 162-0 season this year.

  • Lo$ Angle$ Dodger$
  • Miami Marlins
  • Milwaukee Brewers
  • New York Yankees
All 5 lost yesterday. Nobody will have a 162-0 season this year.

Well it has taken us a little over 2 years but we have now seen every MLB team play live at the Rogers Centre. We started the quest in 2024 where we used our Flex Pack to get tickets to every game of an NL team visiting that year. We got the other 1/2 of them the next year. However, in 2024 the game we got against the Lo$ Angele$ Dodger$ conflicted with a Marlies playoff game. So we traded the game for another that year.

This year we got tickets to see the Lo$ Angele$ Dodger$ visit the Blue Jays. The first game of the 3 game series was tonight. The Jays have been on a bit of a skid. Their offence has been struggling as has their bullpen. They have several starters on the IL and a couple key position players also on the IL or nursing an injury. And today after 2 innings, they lost another starter to an injury. Mad Max suffered from forearm tenderness. Not a good lineup to put up against your long relievers.

We did get to see some position players pitch in the 9th. Henemen moved from catcher to pitcher for the 9th and batted as the pitcher in the bottom of the 9th (dh lost when position player pitches -- unless his name is Otanni). Despite the score we enjoyed booing Otanni and Tucker every time they came to the plate. We booed every Dodger when they announced the starting lineup. The Doger$ also pitched their second baseman in the bottom of the 9th. Henemen was the only Jays pitcher not to give up a run. The Dodger$ second baseman did give up 1. The Jays lost 14-2.

We had a lot of fun with the 3 guys in front of us. We all seemed to appreciate each other's sense of humour. Since most people left in the 6th and 7th the GO Train was not crowded going home.

Our next game is not until May. I hope by then the Jays will get their shit together.

That's really cool. So it was 29 games. What number game was the Phills in '24? and do you remember the outcome?

Also it would be kinda cool to have some sort of memento from each game. Since they don't do real tickets anymore did you get anything like that?

Each game lives forever in my calendar. With the score in the comments.

We did see Philly in 2024 but we saw them 2 times before as well. Before the balanced interleague, the Phillies were are assigned 'rivalry' team as neither of us had a true rival (like the Yankees and Mets). In 2024 the game as on 2024/09/03 and the Jays lost 10-9. In 2024 they lost a lot.

On 2023/08/15 the Jays won 2-1.
On 2022/07/12 the Jays win 4-3.

All look like tight games.

I may have mentioned this before. On a trip with a friend many years ago, we went up to the observation deck at the CN Tower. There's a big plexiglass floor, and a woman wearing a skirt was standing on it, and suddenly realized there was a game going on directly below at the Rogers Centre. She had this reaction as if the people in the stadium were looking up her skirt (from like 1,300 ft away). She closed the bottom of her skirt with her hand, and stepped away from the glass floor.

That is so precious. How well did she make out the play of the game from up there?

It’s Mud Hens opening day today!
Taking the day off work to join the festivities downtown.
It’s always a good time.
It’s cold today with a high temp of 40, but at least it’s sunny.
