It is that time of the year again.
Today was Opening Day for the Jays. And we were there. There is nothing more special than Opening Day. The Rogers Centre was sold out. They had lots of video highlights from last year. They lowered the banner for the AL Pennant with a note that we also won the AL East. They also introduced the team and all the support staff including the 3rd assistant trainer. They also introduced the Jays opening weekend opponent: the As. The video highlights had lots of great moments from the ALDS and the ALCS. The World Series highlights were missing. All fans got an AL Pennant and a magnet with the 2026 schedule.
The game was a tightly pitched contest. Kevin Guzman had his stuff. He struck out a record 10 batters through 6 innings of work. He pitched a perfect game through 3.1 innings. He then gave up a solo HR by Langiliers (the As catcher). This was the only run they got off him. The Jays got the lead with a 2 run triple by Giminez in the bottom of the 5th. The game stayed that way until the top of the 9th when we brought in Heart Attack Hoffman. First batter we did get to see an ABS challenge. A ball making the count 3-2 ball got turned into a K for the first out. But then Hoffman faced Langiliers again and gave up a solo HR. Giminez came to the plate again in the bottom of the 9th with 2 out and runners at second and third. He delivered a single up the middle to walk off the game 3-2. Only 2 players got RBIs in this game.
161 games to go. With the Yankees having a weird schedule of W-F-Sa series, the Jays are 1/2 game behind the Yankees. The Jays were amoung 6 teams to have their opening day today. All teams have now played at least 1 game.
