I think we just got invited to a cookout and then the fireworks show in Gloucester (MA) for tomorrow night. And on the 4th, we'll be at a cookout/pool party, but no fireworks. The town center (York Beach) has a big show on the 4th, but we did that once, and that was enough. It's just a traffic jam to get out. We thought we could cut down a side road, but we unwittingly drove by them all. Going to York Beach is one of those things that all the tourists do, so we don't.
At the end of the month, they have "York Days", which ends with fireworks in the harbor. That's a much better place for us to go. Although honestly, we're only likely to go if we have kids/grandkids with us.
I should also add that a bunch of venues near us do fireworks at night, and it's best for us to be home with the dogs. They get freaked-out by the noise.
