The first Beatles singles released in the United States were Please Please Me/Ask Me Why (Vee Jay 498, February 7 1963), From Me To You/Thank You Girl (Vee Jay 522, May 6 1963) and She Loves You/I'll Get You (Swan 4152, September 16 1963). Pasadena top-40 station KRLA was one of the few stations that played From Me To You. It debuted at #46 on their July 14 Tunedex survey. Four weeks later it was #32. It dropped to #39 the following week. Nationally the song stalled at #116 in August.

I Want To Hold Your Hand (Capitol 5112, December 26 1963) became the Beatles' first US hit, spending seven weeks at number one in February-March 1964. The song debuted at number one on both the KRLA Tunedex and the KFWB Fabulous Forty. It was number one for siz weeks on KRLA and 11 weeks on KFWB. From Me To You reached #41 in the last week of March 1964 after it was re-released as the B-side of Please Please Me (Vee Jay 561, January 30 1964.)
So basically, their first hit in the US was in '64. And their last originally recorded hit was in '69.

It is, if the point is to determine the timespan that they wrote songs.
Not a useful measure for me. I consider them ending in 1970 with their last releases from their last album. I do not count the many re-releases done after that however since those were more for the record companies coffers than anything else.

That's perfectly valid. But the discussion was regarding the rate at which they wrote hit songs; so for that, it's 1969. They didn't write or record any songs in 1970. If the discussion was album releases, or Billboard hits for 1970, the release date would be the one to use.

The last song recorded by the Beatles – not counting the John Lennon demos of Free As A Bird and Real Love which Paul, George and Ringo completed in 1994 and 1995, respectively – was I Me Mine. Paul, George and Ringo recorded I Me Mine January 3, 1970 at Abbey Road Studios. John didn't take part because he and Yoko were vacationing in Denmark at the time.

In 1994, Paul, George and Ringo completed Free As A Bird, which John had recorded as a demo in 1977. Released as a single in December 1995, the song reached #6 on the Hot 100 and netted the Beatles a Grammy award for best pop vocal group – 26 years after they broke up! The video includes two Blue Meanies and Eleanor Rigby's gravestone.

Here is John's original demo:

Here are seven rare Beatles recordings that have never been officially released. One of them, Sour Milk Sea, was written by George Harrison. A version by Jackie Lomax reached #29 in Canada and #117 in the U.S. in October 1968.

On June 24, 1966, the Beatles performed two shows at the Circus-Krone-Bau in Munich, Germany. Also on the bill were Peter & Gordon, the Rattles and Cliff Bennett & the Rebel Rousers. Last month somebody finally posted the video on YouTube.

Rockstar, Dolly Parton's 49th solo album, will be released November 17. Today she shared her remake of the Beatles' Let It Be. The track features Paul McCartney on piano and harmony vocals, Ringo Starr on drums, Peter Frampton on guitar and Mick Fleetwood playing percussion. Wooh! Here it is:

It's a good song regardless who sings it. Dolly's version may take some getting used to. But if Paul & RIngo are involved in it, it can't be bad can it?

John Lennon formed the Quarrymen in 1956. Paul McCartney joined the band in 1957. George Harrison joined in 1958. Pete Best and Stu Sutcliffe joined in 1960. In March 1960, John, Paul, George and Stu formed the Silver Beetles. Drummer Tommy Moore joined in May. In August, Pete Best replaced Moore and the group became the Beatles. Ringo Starr replaced Best in 1962. Five members of the Quarrymen reunited in 1997. With three original members, the Quarrymen are still together in 2023.

The Beatles started out as the Quarrymen, but the earlier band flourished without them
Many believe that once The Beatles were formed, the Quarrymen ceased to exist. Nothing could be further from the truth.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Beatles wind up with a number-one song in 2023, 59 years after their first number one.

Didn't think Paul was the money-grab type. Just wait till it gets covered by T. Swift.
