I've changed the title of this thread to "The Musical Instrument Thread" because I didn't want to waste valuable electrons just to show you this below. I'm getting one for my 45th birthday (which is in 19 days...I was only 31 when I joined Sirius Backstage--wow!). It's a cajon, a Peruvian percussion instrument that does a good impersonation of a snare and tom tom as well as maybe a castanet.

It comes as a kit. You glue it together, screw on the back and sides, sand and finish the wood. Everything but the drill and finish of your choice is included. We had one at our ukulele strum last Thursday and I played it for several songs. They're pretty awesome.

Made in Germany, Hectic!

I got the cajon built last night with help from my boys. Tonight is sanding and applying the finish!

I love cajon humor.

Someone should post some.

Har! Actually, COjones is "eggs" or testicles. CAjones is the plural of cajon. I learned this when the girl on the phone at Musician's Friend couldn't find "COjon" in the computer.

The cajon with one coat of poly, after sanding. It looks pretty good, considering my lack of any mechanical skills.

Gonna add another coat of poly tomorrow, put the rubber feet on and call it complete.

Third picture shows how the snare mechanism sits up against the tapa or soundboard.
