The Musical Instrument Thread

I paid half that much for my last car. Literally.

So, my replacement bridge assembly that I got off eBay came today and it fit just fine on my POStrat. I am now enjoying '50s-style surf guitar goodness with my working trem. Here's a picture of the foul beast: View attachment 2316

I think the previous owner's demon sticker really sets off the shitty black paint job.

That neck ain't long for this world. It plays well but the truss rod adjustment is sheared off. And I think I want to go maple. It will go along with the '50s surf vibe I want to create if/when I tear this thing apart.

Squealies, aka pinch harmonics, are a lot easier on the Strat. Must be a combination of the pickups and the floating bridge.

I'm thinking maybe burgundy for this thing. What do you think? Sort of like what this fat bastard in the Hawaiian shirt who is not me is playing.

That should work.
It'll match your eyes.

I'm guessing that it's either hotter pickups, or they are placed better to pick up the harmonics.
I never really looked into the mechanics of it before.

Yeah, let's not continue that joke......

Niel is such a tool, I wouldn't give him $100 for a guitar.
He can still play like a monkey, but he's still a tool.

Because people don't want to know that you're the catcher.....

Oh, you meant the Niel thing.
He's an ass clown. Sending dick-pics to broads, hooked up with the white-house-party-crashing-reality-tv-wanna-be wife, plastic surgery is not rock and roll, and he's supposed to be a jerk to the people around him.
But I don't deny that he can play. I saw them last time they were in town.

That's legal now.

Ah. I'm not some Neil Schon guy. Just wondering.

I did some tremolo picking exercises tonight, ala Dick Dale, in conjunction with my current interest in surf (and the related horror/sci-fi instro genres). I can play sixteenth notes at 80 bpm with a little fretting hand stuff going on but that's about it for the moment.

True dat.

Some people are duchy enough to take the enjoyment out of their work. He's one of em. EVH is another that's quickly dropping on my respect meter. The more he talks, the less decent music he puts out, the more you hear about him. Bleh. The Billboard interview is wacky.

Good work on the trem picking. I haven't had time to play in the last few weeks. I'm getting withdrawal. I keep looking at the pictures of the ESP that I downloaded before I bought it when I'm stuck in boring meetings at work. Like its some sort of ex girlfriend I'm stalking on the Facebook.

Van Halen has pretty much soiled themselves in my book. The whole matter with Michael Anthony, EVH's antics. Shit, when's Chickenfoot touring again. That sounds a hell of a lot more interesting.

Guitarwise, I haven't had a whole lot of time to touch the acoustic, but I'll probably get the strat out of pawn by the end of the week and start playing that again. Still looking at upgrading the pickups, but that's gonna have to wait.

Ditto to both posts.

ESP is making some good looking guitars.
I think mine looks fantastic, and it plays better than anything I've ever picked up. To me, it blows the $4,000 PRS's out of the water.

Go get your kid back Jon. Don't be a deadbeat dad. Show it some love and attention. Play with it often. Don't worry about the pickups so much. You'll have time to tinker with those before you start playing with other people.

Paul Reed Smiths are kind of laughing stocks. Like, somebody's compensating for something. So I hear. I've never played one. It's just what I read.

I was looking at pickups from this company in Cali, but the dude just took a hiatus due to health problems. The pups sound good, are handmade and dirt cheap: HOME

This guy from NJ supposedly makes a nice pickup too. Tele players rave about him. Pricier, but still cheap: Cavalier Guitar & Bass Pickups

There's a lot of heavy hitters playing PRS, so there has to be something good going on there. Maybe at half the price, it would be different, but they just didn't fit my hand very well. Personal geometry and whatnot.
