I was watching some Youtube clip where a professor mentioned this guy in passing and his story is crazy:

In 1899 Panzram was in Juvenile Court on a charge of being drunk and disorderly
So by 7 years old he was already getting hammered in public.
Apparently, after a whole long crime spree, while on death row for beating a prison laundry room foreman to death with a pipe, some guard gave him money for cigarettes and told him to write his memoirs. I guess his relationship with that guard was the first time he felt like he had a friend.
Included in his writings was this little gem:
In my lifetime I have murdered 21 human beings, I have committed thousands of burglaries, robberies, larcenies, arsons and, last but not least, I have committed sodomy on more than 1,000 male human beings. For all these things I am not in the least bit sorry.
