4/26/1986 ( wheelhouse of my radio days...let's have a look )

40. TOMORROW DOESN'T MATTER TONIGHT - STARSHIP

Why isn't this title familiar to me? Hold on...heading to You Tube. OK - I made it about to the 1st chorus. I know why it's not familiar now...it's fucking terrible. I assume this was the 3rd & least successful single from the "Hoopla" album. And that video is embarrassing, even for its time.

38. FEEL IT AGAIN - HONEYMOON SUITE

Never understood why these guys weren't bigger in the US. They did OK, but they should've been at least a Gold record level act.

33. MOVE AWAY - CULTURE CLUB

Man, that 3rd album went nowhere.

32. NEVER AS GOOD AS THE FIRST TIME - SADE

For some reason, this isn't familiar either. But at least it's not Starship awful.

24. LIVE TO TELL - MADONNA

One of her greatest singles. I think I still have the 12" promo single around here somewhere.
23. I DO WHAT I DO - JOHN TAYLOR

I vaguely remember this, but surprised it got this high on the chart. From a soundtrack, I think? "9 1/2 Weeks", maybe? ( Googles...it was. Never doubt the odd way my brain works )
20. SOMETHING ABOUT YOU - LEVEL 42

One of those songs that always puts me in a good mood. It's like a warm blanket, or a hot cup o' cocoa.

9. YOUR LOVE - THE OUTFIELD

So sad that 2/3 of that band are no longer with us.

Four singles were released from Knee Deep In The Hoopla. We Built This City, which was co-written by Dennis Lambert, Martin Page, Bernie Taupin and Peter Wolf and which has topped several polls ranking the all-time worst rock'n'roll songs, went to number one. Sara went to number one. Tomorrow Doesn't Matter Tonight peaked at #26 in the week ending May 24, 1986. The fourth single, Before I Go, stalled at #68 in August.

Good 17

Bad 14

36. THESE DREAMS - HEART

Alan said "and climbing". Nope.

17. TENDER LOVE - FORCE M.D.'S

3. WEST END GIRLS - PET SHOP BOYS

Totally spaced on this one

2. ADDICTED TO LOVE - ROBERT PALMER

I chose this one, so I tied with Hectic. And we both beat my friend's son and room mate.

1. KISS - PRINCE

This was my original gut instinct, but then I changed to Falco, then to Robert.

#78 Bonnie Tyler "If You Were A Woman (And I Was A Man)"

Rewritten as "You Give Love A Bad Name", and that hit #1 later in the year.

#87 Baltimora "Living In The Background"

My wife walked in while I was playing this video. She says the frontman looks like her boss' wife. I think he looks like a cross between the singer of Pet Shop Boys and the main guy in Revenge Of The Nerds.

#95 EG Daily "Say It, Say It"

It's driving me nuts. Who is the guy in this music video? Or at least the voice anyway? I recognize the voice for sure.

Won't ever get into the top 40
#46 Starpoint "Restless"
#49 Wax "Right Between The Eyes"
#54 Dennis DeYoung "Call Me"
#55 Little Richard "Great Gosh A'mighty"
#60 David Bowie "Absolute Beginners"
#63 Psychedelic Furs "Pretty In Pink"
#68 Ozzy Osbourne "Shot In The Dark"
#69 Voices Of America "Hands Across America"
#71 Vanity "Under The Influence"
#73 Katrina And The Waves "Is That It?"
#74 Jimmy Barnes "Working Class Man"
#76 Fine Young Cannibals "Johnny Come Home"
#78 Bonnie Tyler "If You Were A Woman (And I Was A Man)"
#79 Dan Seals "Bop"
#80 Bourgeois Tagg "Mutual Surrender (What A Wonderful World)"
#82 Platinum Blonde "Somebody, Somewhere"
#83 Rene & Angela "Your Smile"
#86 Atlantic Starr "If Your Heart Isn't In It"
#87 Baltimora "Living In The Background"
#91 Dionne Warwick "Whisper In The Dark"
#92 Talking Heads "Once In A Lifetime (Live)"
#93 Meli'sa Morgan "Do Me Baby"
#94 Graham Nash "Innocent Eyes"
#95 EG Daily "Say It, Say It"
#96 Loverboy "Lead A Double Life"
#97 Jennifer Rush "The Power Of Love"
#100 Greg Kihn "Love And Rock And Roll"

Wait. You didn't remember the songs at all, or you didn't remember them for the countdown?
These seem too big for you to not know the songs.

#63 Psychedelic Furs "Pretty In Pink"
#82 Platinum Blonde "Somebody, Somewhere"
#92 Talking Heads "Once In A Lifetime (Live)"
This week's surprises. Platinum Blonde is likely cause of being Canadian. Not sure if the Talking Heads released a non-live version which did better.

Mister sadchild, the man in the E.G. Daily video is Edson Stroll. He played Prince Charming in Snow White & The Three Stooges (1961), played Captain Tom Edwards in The Three Stooges In Orbit (1962) and played Virgil Edwards in 138 episodes of McHale's Navy (1962-66).

Those songs may have found an audience in some pockets of the world, but they were no Stonebolt.

No, actually I just didn't remember to consider them in making my list of chart-toppers for '86, and I shoulda.

Cool thanks!

I know his very distinctive voice from something else. And it's not on IMDB. Gonna drive me kooky. But now that I know his name, I'll have more luck finding it!

You're probably thinking of James Mason, because he's doing a Mason impression in the video ( which is a goof on "Lolita" ).

As usual I know I'm missing some. 1983:

Lionel Richie "Truly" (82/83)
Men At Work "Down Under"
Toto "Africa"
Michael Jackson "Billie Jean"

Dexy's Midnight Runners "Come On Eileen"
Michael Jackson "Beat It"

David Bowie "Let's Dance"
Irene Cara "Flashdance"
Police "Every Breath You Take"
Eurythmics "Sweet Dreams"
Michael Sambello "Maniac"
Billy Joel "Tell Her About It"
Bonnie Tyler "Total Eclipse"
Lionel Richie "All Night Long"
Dolly/Kenny "Islands In The Stream"
Paul/Michael "Say Say Say" (83/84)
Culture Club "Karma Chameleon" (84)

There's a sappy R&B duet in there somewhere, I just can't think of what it is, who do it, and where it fits in. It's not "On Our Own" or "Somewhere Out There" but is kinda like those.

You're right, there is a sappy duet. Your order is somewhat correct. Missing a couple and a couple in wrong order.
Once of your 2 choices is definitely #1. SXM can't mess the dates up enough for it not to be. Glad it will be a 1983 countdown.
