WAAF (Boston) played it every Friday too. I think it was at the end of the Greg Hill morning show. And they would make up their own ending for the line "...the boss is a ________"
It got a lot of play on Friday afternoons on KSMB in Lafayette, La. I don't listen to local radio on the evening drive but I would suspect it still gets a lot of play there.

I've heard a version that loads up the bass solo on the middle with audio clips. Probably one of Rick Dees' creations. (The long-time morning guy on KSMB copied a lot of Dees' schtick.)

Yeah - the "Bang On A Drum All Day" thing is an olllllllllllllllllld radio cliche. If you ever wanna hear a station where the programming people are on 100% auto-pilot, this is one way to know. I never liked that song in the first place, but yeesh.

In 2020. Kevin Wall, a singer-songwriter from Amesbury, Massachusetts, recorded a hilarious coronavirus-themed Bang The Drum parody
called Hand Sanitize All Day.

I hear that song fairly regularly now but thinking back, I am not sure how much I actually heard it in 1983. Might explain its lack of chart action. I like the song. It is the ringtone when someone from work calls. Of course everytime I hear it on the radio now I first think 'damn, being called from work'.

I guess we can talk about ringtones again, now that grumpy Memebag "a phone should just ring" is gone.

Considering I wasn't listening to Top 40 radio at the time, I actually like a dozen-ish of these songs.

5/27/89

37: Cuddly Toy (Feel For Me) - Roachford

I bet I haven't heard this in 25 years, but I remember liking it & thinking it would be MUCH bigger than it was.

39: Downtown - One 2 Many
29: Little Jackie Wants To Be A Star - Lisa Lisa & The Cult Jam
27: Thinking Of You - Sa-Fire
20: Cry - Waterfront
16: Through The Storm - Aretha Frankin & Elton John
15: Where Are You Now - Jimmy Harnen & Synch

I honestly dunno if I've ever heard any of these.

4: Soldier Of Love - Donny Osmond
3: Rock On - Michael Damian

2 great examples of why I wasn't listening to the format during this era.
