39: Downtown - One 2 Many

Who are they, you may ask. I did.

27: Thinking Of You - Sa-Fire

11: Electric Youth - Debbie Gibson
7: I'll Be Loving You (Forever) - New Kids On The Block

Well... after skipping several tracks (listening to on-demand), I was sad to discover I'd run out of 'skips' and had to listen to these. Ugh.

10: Close My Eyes Forever - Ozzy Osbourne & Lita Ford

Mark Goodman called this Ozzy's highest charting solo hit, peaking at #8. Sure, kinda, except that in 2019 he hit #8 again with Post Malone on "Take What You Want". Just call me lasvegaskid.

6: Wind Beneath My Wings - Bette Midler

I guessed this. 3rd place for me.

3: Rock On - Michael Damian
1: Forever Your Girl - Paula Abdul

These are what the other two guessed.

#91 Bad Company "Shake It Up"

They had six top 40s in the 1970s and three top 40s in the 1990s, but none in the 1980s.

Won't reach the top 40:
#54 Edie Brickell & New Bohemians "Circle"
#59 Cure "Fascination Street"
#64 New Order "Round & Round"
#65 Chicago "We Can Last Forever"
#67 Replacements "I'll Be You"
#69 Sam Brown "Stop"
#71 Surface "Closer Than Friends"
#73 Guy "I Like"
#74 Queen "I Want It All"
#75 Was Not Was "Anything Can Happen"
#76 XTC "Mayor of Simpleton"
#78 Cutting Crew "(Between a) Rock and a Hard Place"
#81 Eddie Money "Let Me In"
#82 Bulletboys "For The Love Of Money"
#84 Cult "Fire Woman"
#85 Kevin Raleigh "Moonlight On Water"
#86 Pajama Party "Yo No Se"
#90 Rob Base & DJ EZ Rock "Joy & Pain"
#91 Bad Company "Shake It Up"
#92 Peter Schilling "The Different Story"
#93 Wang Chung "Praying To A New God"
#94 Julian Lennon "Now You're in Heaven"
#98 Robbie Nevil "Somebody Like You"
#100 Mike + The Mechanics "Seeing Is Believing"

@sadchild second week in a row your B&B icon has not been visible in your post.
Odd. I see it. But I think I switched to copying the link I usually use to one Jon posted here (which I also see):

I'll go back using to my original image link. Posting it here for posterity.

Is Nina Blackwood losing some of her mental function? I'm listening to the 1989 show now. Just heard her call the .38 Special song "Second Choice" (it's "Second Chance"). Last week she named the Ronnie Milsap song "Stranger in My Town" (it's "Stranger in My House"). She's not the only one flubbing details but it seems to me that she's doing it more than the others.

I can't listen to her anymore. Her 3-packs-a-day voice has gotten to be too much for me.

That's saying a lot. It seems every intro by any of them has some error in it.

LasVegasKid reported on all three of them making blunders every countdown every week going back years and years. I think they're all losing it slowly. But counterpoint, aren't we too?
No, I think they don't do any research themselves and pull what they say out of their gray matter, or they just read whatever copy SXM hands them (which means SXM doesn't research well or fact check).

I'm reposting so we can keep an eye on the May #40 peaks. C'mon 1982 and 1988!
To recap for this year:

1. L.T.D. "Shine On". I didn't find a listing for this week. Held the #40 position for one week. - 1/31/81
2. Yes "Rhythm of Love". I didn't find a listing for this week. Held the #40 position for one week. - 2/6/88
3. Genesis "Man On the Corner". I didn't find a listing for this week. Held the #40 position for two weeks. - 5/8/82, 5/15/82 (second and third week of May)
4. The Cover Girls "Promise Me". I didn't find a listing for this week. Held the #40 position for one week. - 5/21/88 (third week of May)

The three chances in May didn't come to fruition so the next chance is December.

5. Barbra Streisand "The Way He Makes Me Feel". I didn't find a listing for this week. Held the #40 position for two weeks. - 12/10/83, 12/17/83

I think they just aren't very motivated.
They've been doing this since the 80's and can only muster up so much enthusiasm.
I wonder if a part of the problem is that some of the songs in the 40 weren't played on MTV so they don't have a connection to those tracks.

I think it would be cool if Casey's 80s countdowns were played. The MTV VJs could countdown the old MTV: Top 20 Video Countdown shows. Another idea would be to feature songs from the MTV Programming lists that appeared in Billboard for the week.

All wishful thinking I guess.

I peaked. Depending on the week chosen, the actual is not even on there or if June 8th rather then the 1st something you have marked as earlier. Your order is way off. And another fun fact: Whiney Houston had 0 #1 songs in 1985.
