#49 Joey Scarbury "When She Dances"

So, not a one-hit wonder....?

This is not a hit. Did not make top 40 and until I saw it today, I have never even heard of it.

Won't make the top 40
#54 Triumph "Magic Power"
#64 Devo "Working In The Coal Mine"
#90 Kinks "Destroyer"
#93 Don Felder "Heavy Metal"

I am with Hectic on Magic Power and Destroyer. They got a fair bit of airplay (at least in Canada).

I would have thought Devo and Felder would have done a bit better. I always envisioned them as low top 40 hits.

#54 Triumph "Magic Power"
PEAK #51

#64 Devo "Working In The Coal Mine"

PEAK #43

#90 Kinks "Destroyer"

PEAK #85

#93 Don Felder "Heavy Metal"

PEAK #43

The Kinks peak of #85 surprises me too. The rest actually came pretty close to the Top 40, but the only song of those four I actually knew back in '81 was "Destroyer" (at eleven years old).

38. TURNING JAPANESE - THE VAPORS

Not about masturbation, despite the popular rumor (at least that's what the band told VH1). But remember, Frankie Goes To Hollywood originally said "Relax" was about 'motivation', then admitted they'd lied.

36. SOMETIMES A FANTASY - BILLY JOEL

Wow, talk about your lost hits!! I probably haven't heard this since I was in elementary school!!

35. EVERY WOMAN IN THE WORLD - AIR SUPPLY

849ec66b71f5b46eaaf54fdc6fd56492.jpg

30. THEME FROM "THE DUKES OF HAZZARD" - WAYLON JENNINGS

Nina called this a 'chart-topper'.... but she didn't specify that it topped the country chart, not the Hot 100.

11. DREAMING - CLIFF RICHARD

Alan called this a 'huge hit', peaking at #11. In the ever-changing VJ definition of a 'hit', it will be interesting if in the coming weeks we hear one of them say '...and it was a minor hit, only making it to #11."

#52 707 "I Could Be Good For You"

Had never heard of it, so I took a listen. It kinda rocks. Better than 2/3rds of the countdown anyway.

#92 Pete Townshend "Rough Boys"

Hard to believe this only peaked at #89. I'm also reminded of what I posted last year about it.

"I know how it feels to be a woman because I am a woman, and I won't be classified as just a man." Regarding "Rough Boys," (Townshend) said, "In a way it was a coming-out. That it was a real acknowledgment of the fact that I'd been surrounded by people that I really adored - and was actually sexually attracted to - who were men. And that the side of me that responded to those people was a passive side, a subordinate side."

#97 Burt Reynolds "Let's Do Something Cheap And Superficial"

WTF??

And an even bigger WTF, here's a Billboard.com headline: "Yes, Burt Reynolds Had a Hot 100 Hit With an '80s Country Song and It's Actually Pretty Good". Is this writer insane?

Will never make the top 40
#49 Doolittle Band "Who Were You Thinkin' Of"
#52 707 "I Could Be Good For You"
#56 Kim Carnes "Cry Like A Baby"
#61 George Benson "Love X Love"
#64 Ali Thomson "Live Every Minute"
#66 Eddie Money "Let's Be Lovers Again"
#72 Pointer Sisters "Could I Be Dreaming"
#73 Cheap Trick "Stop This Game"
#80 Bob Seger "The Horizontal Bop"
#84 B-52s "Private Idaho"
#86 Climax Blues Band "Gotta Have More Love"
#87 Earth Wind & Fire "Let Me Talk"
#89 Chic "Real People/Chip Off The Old Block"
#92 Pete Townshend "Rough Boys"

#80 Bob Seger "The Horizontal Bop"

Good song. But too rocky for a pop countdown I guess.

Agree on Rough Boys. I would have guessed somewhere between 30 & 50 for a peak.

40. LOVE IS THE SEVENTH WAVE - STING

Always wondered if Sting was inspired to put the goofy "Every Breath" lyrics at the end of this song after Bloom County did it in 1983.

37. CONGA - MIAMI SOUND MACHINE

Gloria Estefan:

"Come on baby do the conga!"

22. SAY YOU, SAY ME - LIONEL RICHIE

The sudden bizarre upbeat part in this song has always made me scratch my head.

16. LOVE THEME FROM "ST. ELMO'S FIRE" - DAVID FOSTER

Nina was naming the brat pack and said "Rob Lowe, Demi Moore, Emilio Estefan". Wait, what? #estevez

14. SLEEPING BAG - ZZ TOP

I like the song, but hate that off-time snare in the outtro. Why?

#82 Cheech & Chong "Born In East LA"

Green card? I'm from East LA!

#93 Motley Crue "Home Sweet Home"

The scene in the video where the girl in the crowd has her shirt lifted is eternally burned into my mind.

#63 Talking Heads "And She Was"
I expected the high 30's for this.

#73 Rush "The Big Money"
I'm always glad to see them a list. Any list really, but I would have expected Big Money to make it closer to 60.
I know that Alex hated this album, but I always liked his guitar tone on it.

#93 Motley Crue "Home Sweet Home"
I REALLY thought that this would have made the top 20.
And I'll second your vote on the video.....

Off the top of my head, I recall the Motleys reissuing the song with re-recorded piano for their Greatest Hits (Decade Of Decadence) because one or more of the members never liked the original piano in the '85 recording. As a huge fan of the original, I didn't see any problem with the original piano and thought the new recording was unnecessary. But hey, it re-charted a lot higher.
