80s0n8 Big 40 Countdown Schedule

"She used to do stuff like this, that you might hear in a Crystal Light commercial...a few years later, she meets Prince. And the next thing you know, she's doing songs about her pussy." - Me, in the car earlier today
I remember 'Strut' being in a health club advertisement back in the 80's.

I remember 'Strut' being in a health club advertisement back in the 80's.
I think I do, too - I wanna say they were for Bally's Gym. I guess that was the transitional period between "I date someone who gets to work on mass transit" and "you wouldn't believe how good my hoo-hah feels".

BTW this one fell a "whopping" 43 spots from last week. I think it hit its head on the diving board on the way down too.
I thought "The Animals" were long since dead with their one hit being "House Of The Rising Sun" in 1964. However, looking at the discography this is another artist which has been incorrectly slotted into the OHW category. Several other hits in top 40. Of course, I have heard none of them since they are never played anymore.

The Animals had 13 top-40 hits including Don't Bring Me Down, San Franciscan Nights, See See Rider, It's My Life, Help Me Girl, We Gotta Get Out Of This Place and Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood. Teri and I saw the Animals live in concert in 1999. Eric Burdon sounded fine on the uptempo songs but when he sang a ballad it was obvious he was drunk. He slurred his words and at one point even forgot some of the lyrics and asked the audience to sing!

Some musical trivia I didn't know! I know Janet Jackson turned down How Will I Know, which became a number-one hit for Whitney Houston, and Céline Dion turned down I Don't Want To Miss A Thing, which became a number-one hit for Aerosmith.

Husband-and-wife songwriting team Felice and Boudleaux Bryant wrote Bye Bye Love in 1956. The song was turned down by 30 artists including Elvis Presley and the country duo Johnnie (Wright) & Jack (Anglin). Finally, in March 1957, the Everly Brothers recorded it – and it went to #2 on the Top 100, number one on the country chart and #5 on the R&B chart.

"She used to do stuff like this, that you might hear in a Crystal Light commercial...a few years later, she meets Prince. And the next thing you know, she's doing songs about her pussy." - Me, in the car earlier today
I stumbled upon a video that chronicled the beginning of her career. I guess sales started to dip so the execs made her go the "sex symbol" route.

It sure does.... :)

Won't reach the top 40
#43 Donna Summer "Unconditional Love"
I really liked this one.
#64 SOS Band "Just Be Good To Me"
The was huge in the UK.
#71 Herbie Hancock "Rockit"
This is crazy considering the amount of video airplay.
#74 Anne Murray "A Little Good News"
The is the track that discovered bubbled under after falling out of the 100.
#90 New Edition "Is This the End"
The was a popular on my town's old Urban station.

Hey, Mon, the background vocalists on Donna Summer's Unconditional Love were not credited. They were the Musical Youth, a British reggae quintet. Their 1982 song Pass The Dutchie was adapted from the Mighty Diamonds' Pass The Kouchie – look it up – and went to number one in the UK and #10 in the US.
