Among the beautiful, heartwarming, sentimental ballads on the Hot 100 in 1989 were Batdance by Prince, Wild Thing by Tone Lōc, Silhouette (snake charmer music) by Kenny G, Owwww! by Chunky A, Posse On Broadway by Sir Mix-A-Lot, Smooth Up In Ya by Bulletboys, Me So Horny by 2 Live Crew and Hey Ladies by the Beastie Boys,

And my favorite song of the year – by Harrison, Dylan, Petty, Lynne and Orbison – stalled at #63.

As if things weren't bad enough, instead of the closer 6/17 date, they went with 6/24, which they did just LAST YEAR. Mark even said the chart date was for "June 22nd, 1989". What the heck kinda calendar are they using???

From May 27 to July 22 there are nine weeks... and nine different chart-toppers. As Macca once sang, with a little luck, I guessed the correct one!

CORRECT ORDER

Bette Midler "Wind Beneath" #6
NKOTB "I'll Be Loving" #2
Richard Marx "Satisfied" #1 <-i went with this one yay

FYC "Good Thing" #5
Simply Red "If You Don't Know" #11
Martika "Toy Soldiers" #15

What the heck kinda calendar are they using???
Each week's Hot 100 is dated for the week ending Saturday and is based on data from Friday to Thursday of the previous week. The June 24 1989 Hot 100 was based on data from June 9 through June 15.

In the early 1980s, the Billboard Hot 100 charts were "A reflection of national sales and programming activity by selected dealers, one-stops and radio stations as compiled by the Charts Dept. of Billboard." Beginning with the July 11 1981 chart, the wording was changed to "Compiled from national retail sales and one-stops by the Music Popularity Chart Dept. of Billboard." Beginning with the December 19 1981 chart, the wording was changed to "Compiled by the Music Popularity Chart Dept. of Billboard from national retail store and one-stop sales reports and radio airplay reports."

Beginning with the October 20 1984 chart, the wording was shortened to "Compiled from national retail store and one-stop sales reports and radio airplay reports." Beginning with the January 26 1985 chart, "radio airplay reports" was changed to "radio playlists." The Hot 100 is now based on physical sales, digital sales, online streaming data and radio airplay.

02 06. Bette Midler - Wind Beneath My Wings - Far from a favorite, but from time to time I've been known to ask my coworkers if they know that they are my hero and that they are the wind beneath my wings when the do something good. The younger ones don't know what I'm talking about, but the reactions are still good.
