Adventures In Koopland

Really nice place!

Thanks man, I'm happy with it. Now I just need to convince a certain Uruguayan to move in.

Also, and you can understand this Aaron, it's pretty safe from hurricane season. It's basically a 1 story cinderblock box so hard for a storm to knock down. The windows are kinda old and not impact windows but I've been told when storms come to town the maintenance people go to all the Apts and board them. My boss also told me that if a storm comes I can park my car in an empty unit until it passes which is really nice and will give me piece of mind.

Cool.
It's gotta be nice to have your own place again.

Now you just need to go furniture shopping and see what nice stuff you ven help yourself to in all of those storage units!

So technically I live in a gated community now.

And yes it's a gated community of 1 along with a bunch of random storage customers but the gate closes to them at 9pm every night. So from 9p to 6a every single day I live in a gated community of just me. I'm the only one besides my boss who has a 24 hour code to the gate.

Let's tour the new place. It's still a bit messy. This is my 4th day here so I'm still moving in.

Living room.

Dining area

Kitchen nook. I'll move that glass table over there once I clean out all those piles of junk and it will be my breakfast nook.

Kitchen. This is probably the best part. Everything except the tile floor is new. Fridge, cabinets, light fixture, oven/stove, counters, sink, microwave and dishwasher all new. Plus I didn't have a dishwasher in the old place or my dad's place so this is my first one in years and I love it hah.

Hallway to bedrooms and bathroom

Very nice; but is it just the camera, or is everything "Commodore 64" beige?

Haha. It's the lighting. All the walls have a fresh coat of white paint. The tile floors are more off white.
OK. Given that info, let's look at the (very nice!) kitchen:

The ceiling light probably gives everything a yellowish cast, but the floor, cabinets, refrigerator, stove/range, dishwasher, walls, and ceiling all look pretty similar. So I assume the cabinets are wood, and they decided to freshen them up by painting them white/off-white. OK, that's cool. But then they go with an off-white tile floor; which is OK too. But it just seems that you wouldn't do white for both, unless they're going for the contemporary all-white look (that might be common in tropical climates). And of course the walls and ceiling are white/off-white. But then they top it off with all white appliances, which is kind of unusual. Overall, it's a very nice kitchen, and the countertops are cool.

But the real story is the living room. Let's see what's going on here:

It's always good to start with something positive, and I like that area rug. The first thing I notice is that the TV wall seems to be non-vertical. Have we ever seen those angel-like pieces that are on that wall? And then there's the clock, which is probably an antique (maybe handed down). It's kind of a trip to see an 1800's style clock sitting over a 2020's flat-screen TV. The TV is sitting on what looks likes two nightstands. And lastly, the wire going to the right wall: is that for power? Cable? Gaming? I don't know what that is between the nightstands.

He did mention he was binge watching Rosanne on antenna TV. My guess is the wire is for the antenna.

And you are hardly one to be complaining about stuff not being level.

What part of non-vertical sounds non-level to you? You're clearly not the architect here.
Exhibit A:

You posted a pic of your TV in your bedroom which I still maintain is not level.
It's level. I can't take a picture to your satisfaction with my phone, but it's not my problem. I don't spend hours of my day looking at a crooked TV.

Look nice Koop, you could turn your guest room into one of these type of rooms?

The TV is level. Again just my bad photography. And yea it's on 2 bed stand tables. I need an entertainment center. I've been living in a guest bedroom since 8.2019 it's gonna take me a bit to get all my furniture.

The cabinets are brand new from home depot and came white like that out of the box. Not sure why they went with all white for everything. I didn't have input on that. But I see your point. I'm just happy everything is brand new.

That clock has serious sentimental value. It's been in the various koopmans homes since before I was born. It chimes on the hour and half hour and ticks twice per second. Every woman I've ever had at any of my places with it hates it. But I love it. It soothes me. My dad probably bought it at sears in like 78 for like $80. It's a wind up clock that keeps terrible time. It loses a minute a day. But I still love it. It makes me feel home.

My dad also had a giant wall mounted grandfather clock that is actually worth a bit that operates with weights and pullies. Its probably from the late 1800s. I didn't have room for it before so it's been at my aunt and uncles place. I can now finally take it back. I plan to mount it on the wall as an art piece. I won't have it keep time.

What's up with that?

I don't have tons of windows but they do let in a ton of light. There is one in each bedroom, one in the living room, one in the kitchen nook and one in the kitchen. So 5 in total.
