"it's a small world" was part of the 1964-65 New York World's Fair and opened at Disneyland in 1966. The attraction has since been added to Disney's theme parks in Florida, Tokyo, Paris and Hong Kong. The theme song was written by Richard and Robert Sherman. On July 17, the 70th anniversary of Disneyland's opening, a new verse written by Richard Sherman in 2023 will be added to the attraction at Disneyland and Walt Disney World: "Mother Earth unites us in heart and mind, and the love we give makes us humankind. Through our vast wondrous land, when we stand hand in hand, it's a small world after all." Robert died in 2012. Richard died in 2024.

I went to DIsney for the first time in almost 4 months which is WAYYYYY too long for me.

I did it differently this time. I went to my Aunt Kath's house on Sat after work, She's in Melbourne which is on the east coast about 2 hours from me. Even though we talk for hours every week I hadn't seen her in a really long time so it was nice to spend time with her. I slept at her place on Sat night then woke up and went to Disney.

I started at Epcot.....did Moana Journey of Water and Spaceship Earth. Journey of water is a walkthrough attraction that is classic Disney and I love it. I have accepted that I now live in a time where all new attractions have to be tied to an IP. We don't get new Spaceship Earth's or Living with the Land's anymore. That sucks but Journey of Water is such classic Epcot even with the IP tie in. It's fun and educational about water conservation while also using the Moana theme quite well.

After that I did Animal Kingdom. That park is the best THEMED park I've ever been in. It opened in 1998 before this new era of IP everything and they did such a good job. For instance the Everest ride where you escape from the Yeti is so amazing. The lore of old peoples who actually believed in Yetis and all that understood that the color red scared the Yeti. So the buildings closer to Mt. Everest have progressively more and more red paint on them as they get closer to where the Yeti lives.

Little shit like that is what made me fall in love with Disney in the first place.

My pics aren't the best, but here's the building closest to the mountain where the Yeti lives. See how it's 100% red?

And here's a building a little bit further away from the mountain that only has some red on the perimeter:

Those particulars that have nothing to do with Disney IP but have everything to do with Imagineers taking the time to study the intricate details that no average person would ever consider, make me so incredibly happy.

Also check it out. I got those Ray-Ban glasses that have cameras attached to them and I filmed the ride. So here I am in FPV on Expedition Everest:

Anyway, after the parks I drove back to Kath which is only about 75 mins away and we watched all our silly, girl reality shows together. It was really fun watching them together in person and making fun of all the dumb TLC male and female bimbos. Then we watched Gilded Age together and that was awesome too.

Overall a very fun weekend.

In the context of the above post, what is "IP"?

Intellectual Property.

They don't make rides anymore that are called Expedition Everest or Spaceship Earth or Living with the Land or The People Mover.

Everything needs to tie in to a Disney IP.

The newest rides/attractions in Walt Disney World right now are Guardians of the Galaxy Cosmic Rewind, Remy's Ratatouille Adventure and the very cool but still IP attached....Moana's Journey of Water.

For example they just closed The Liberty Bell Riverboat. It opened 2 years after the park in 1973. It has no tie in to any Disney property except for it being a ride in the parks.

It was closed so they can make a new Cars land.........Fucking IP everything.

Since 1982, Disneyland and Walt Disney World have raised admission prices once a year – and often twice a year. New price hikes took effect today. During "peak demand" times such as Christmas week, New Year's week, Hallowe'en, Thanksgiving and spring break, admission will cost $209 at Walt Disney World and $224 at Disneyland. Yikes! And Disneyland's parking fee rose to $35, a $5 increase.

When I am wrong, I admit it. I've done that three times so far. Disneyland's parking fee did rise $5 – but it's now $40, not $35. Forty dollars to let your car sit on the ground while you're at Disneyland! From 1955 until 1966, Disneyland parking cost only 25¢.

I loved that exhibit in the 70s.

I'm sure we've talked about this before but what World's Fair did you go to? I had a coworker once who saw it at the 1964 NY Fair.

I only ever knew it to be at those but maybe you saw it at some other event?

I saw it in Disneyland.

I have been to the New York world's fair in 1964 and Expo 86. I have no idea if I saw it in 1964. I was a toddler.

THE CAROUSEL OF PROGRESS IS FINALLY GETTING UPDATED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Carousel of Progress is my all time favorite ride in not only all of Walt Disney World but also including any theme or amusement park I've ever attended.

It's also a huge reason as to why I'm such a weirdo Disney adult. Besides the animated 90's movies nothing made me love Disney more than this ride.

I'm well aware there is a ton of nostalgia I feel for this ride. The current version of this ride has been running in the Magic Kingdom since 1994 and my parent's and I would make sure we went on it every time we were vacationing in Disney World. My mom loved it and I have great memories of seeing this show/ride with her. My dad even somewhat liked it since it had to do with American history. "Somewhat liking" a Disney ride was more or less the highest praise my dad could give to anything Disney.

This (As IdRather knows well) is also an original ride that was created by Walt Disney. I love the rides that remain in the parks that Walt himself had a hand in creating.

AND IT'S THE FREAKING CAROUSEL OF PROGRESS!!!!!!!! The whole point of it is to show our progress through the years and into the future. Like I said above it has not been updated in 32 years! It's not like this will be the first time it has been updated. It opened on 4.22.64. Since then it has been updated 5 times: 1967, 1975, 1981, 1985 and 1994. Walt died on 12.15.66 so it is likely he was the one that approved the 1967 update.

Walt made a point to say that (I'm paraphrasing) he never wanted to let his park become a museum. He also talked about how the park would never be complete and he wanted it to be fresh with new ideas for people to enjoy every time they visited.

Updating this specific ride is completely keeping true to his vision as I understand it.

So about the 2026, 6th update......

It will close on 7.5.26 and reopen sometime in 2027.

Currently the ride shows the turn of the 20th century, the 20's the late 40's and what 1994 Imagineers (who were and are definitely not architects) thought was the future when they came up with it in 1994.

Here is the new vision and I love it!!!!!!

It's going to be 1969 (going to the moon), 1985, 1999 (Y2K), and the future of course. But this time the future will be further off when we have colonized another planet so it won't get stale anytime soon.

In the current version of the future scene there is a line where the teenage daughter teases her Grandpop by saying, "Back in you day, you didn't even have a car phone". That makes me cringe every time I hear it so I'm glad they are going to future proof the new future scene.

ALSO THEY ARE ADDING A 5th SCENE!!!!!!!!!!

In Disneyland, in the theater where Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln has played forever, they now changed it so it splits time with the new show, Walt Disney - A Magical Life. For the first time ever it is a show with an animatronic of Walt himself.

It's awesome!!!!!! I should make a post about it.

In the new WDW Carousel of Progress they are adding an opening scene with a Walt animatronic introducing the ride! I cant wait for that the most of all. And they will bee keeping the Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow theme song which also makes me happy.

Sorry for the rant guys but this is the best WDW news I've had in a while and I needed to talk about it.

Here is the full current version of the ride:

Here is Walt IRL talking about the ride:

And here is Walt IRL talking about the Carousel. His animatronic will be wearing that iconic blue cardigan and it will use Walt's actual voice. The new introductory scene won't be exactly the same as this video but they will try to keep the same vibe. Most of that video now plays on TVs for everyone waiting to enter the ride.

Well I'm up at Disney. First time since September of last year which is insanely long for me. I haven't been to the park yet. I'm going to have to renew my pass so that sucks. That's going to be a bunch of money m

Also that really shitty motel that I've told you guys about a bunch of times apparently was so shitty that it has closed since the last time I've been here. Good thing though is that this Irlo Bronson highway which is like the major tourist trap road right outside of Disney is full of really shitty motels. I found a knights inn that was $60 for the night including tax. Now it is a complete fucking disaster. Don't think otherwise. But I don't give a shit. When it's just me I will literally stay.....as long as there aren't like roaches I could see walking around in the motel..... Anywhere.

So I'm happy.

I want to ride Carousel Progress a bunch more before July 5th when it closes like I talked about in the previous post. And also they just totally redid Big thunder mountain. It's a completely new track and it has all new like special effects and what not. So I'm going to check that out as well and then do all the regular shit. I may even go home tonight and I got here like an hour and a half ago so I don't know. We'll see what happens. I'm just happy to be back for the first time in a while.

Here's my closed shitty motel. And also it's been so long that I forgot about the cats that roam around at these shitty motels fuck every time I see them. I seriously consider just scooping them up and going home with like four fucking cats which would not be great but the poor fucking things. I'm pretty sure I'll be able to stay strong there this time cuz I didn't bring any of materials. I would need to catch them and I don't want to buy them again like I did the last time I was here in September. Like at cat carrier, food and gloves and all that shit.

And here's the new shitty motel I found along with my fat ass:
