Annoying Words & Phrases

On the December 2 Today show, Jenna Bush Hager complained that she was told to not say "y'all." I'm like, that doesn't bother me, but I'm like, all the times she says she's "like," well, I'm like, that bothers me. And I'm like, this is the woman who earned a degree in English at the University of Texas in 2004? I'm like, wow. This is what she told viewers:

“They were like, ‘Hey, y’all isn’t for the whole country.' And I was like, ‘Well, but it’s who I am.’ It’s so weird, and this happens in life too. If you have friends and then all of a sudden you’re acting not who you are and you’re like, ‘Wait,’ something in your gut feels wrong. When they said, ‘You can’t say y’all,’ in my gut, I was like, ‘But why? We have to pretend to be news people?’”

It's because we say "should've" and somehow people started thinking that's "of."

Haha, that's another one. So you all know I love SiriusXMU, and the queen of indie DJs is Jenny Eliscu. She is the heartbeat of the channel, in terms of programming, and influence, and knowledge. But as recently as a year or so ago, she'd be interviewing some indie artist, and she'd keep saying "werd" as a follow-up to everything the artist would say. And I'm like, "That's so Y2K".

The elementary age kids at Pam's school all say brah instead of bro. And it drives her crazy. I'm pretty much with her on that one.

Somewhat off topic but I am a huge fan of what Jenna did with her career. I mean I never watch her for more than a minute or unless I'm at a family member's house that has it on, but her father was straight up hated by tons of people and other people liked him quite a bit. But I don't think anybody really loved Bush with a passion the way they hated him.

And she picks a career where she's still famous but she gets to be as middle of the road as humanly possible. No one can get upset at Jenna and Hoda for drinking wine and talking about silly little bullshit stories for the last hour of the today show. It's kind of cute.

I just love how she picked a job that keeps her in the limelight but also has a position where people either love her or they're like me and go. Oh yeah that's a cute little part of The today show. I never really watch...I like those gals.

Who the hell decided "za" was a word?

We're gonna go to the local shop and watch them sling some za's around. Then we're gonna go to the scoop shop and get some ice cream.

Being from New Jersey, I would get looks (up here in New England) for calling it a pie, as in "large pepperoni pie with extra cheese".
 
The YourTeenMag website explains, "'Za' is one of the most commonly used slang words for marijuana. It is also sometimes referred to as 'zaza' to add a little bit more flare. 'Za' is an abbreviation of the word 'exotic' which is another slang word for marijuana. Phonetically, the word 'exotic' sounds like ec-za-tick, and Gen Z has adopted the middle syllable as a slang word for weed. 'Za' can be used to refer to pizza but it is most commonly used to refer to marijuana."

I suspect whoever wrote that explanation was high on weed and wasn't thinking clearly and that's why he said "flare" instead of "flair."

I assumed "za" was slang for pizza.
 
When the hell did Howard Stern start airing "episodes" of his show? I saw the SiriusXM app/website mention them, but they sure as hell weren't "episodes" back in 2019, were they?
 
When my son managed a Pizza Hut, I tried to get him to call pizza "za." He said, and I quote: "That's dumb."
 
On talk radio stations I often hear callers say "I couldn't agree more with your guest" or "I couldn't agree more with your previous caller." In letters to the editor in newspapers I often see "I couldn't agree more with your editorial." Why can't people simply say "I agree"?
