Beatles songs sung by other artists

My grandmother was into electronic music, and it showed in her record collection. I have this album, Dick Hyman's "The Age of Electronicus" from her and it has several covers, including "Green Onions" and "Give It Up or Turn It Loose". And yes, 'ol Dick - still alive at 99 - did some Beatles tunes:

Sérgio Mendes & Brasil '66 also recorded Day Tripper, Here Comes The Sun, Norwegian Wood (which was released as a single and was on Billboard's Bubbling Under chart for only one week, at #107, February 21 1970; it was awful!) – and With A Little Help From My Friends. Leilani "Lani" Hall is the lead singer. She's been married to Herb Alpert since 1974.

 
If I Needed Someone, written by George Harrison, was one of 14 songs on the Beatles' December 1965 Rubber Soul album – except in North America, where four songs (including If I Needed Someone) were cut from the album and two songs were added. If I Needed Someone finally appeared in North America on the June 1966 album Yesterday...And Today. A version by the Hollies reached #20 on the January 13 1966 Official UK Singles chart but did not chart in the United States.

 
Among Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas' 1960s hits are Little Children, Bad To Me, From A Window and I'll Keep You Satisfied. Their first single was a remake of the Beaqtles' Do You Want To Know A Secret. It was #2 for two weeks on the Official UK Singles chart in June 1963 (behind the Beatles' From Me To You, which was number one for seven weeks) but did not chart in the United States.

 
Yes, I somehow typed "Beaqtles" – me and my fat fingers! But you know who I meant.

Here is a version of Do You Want To Know A Secret by the Coverbeats, led by Ian Cussick, a singer-songwriter from Dundee, Scotland. This first appeared on their 2003 CD A Tribute To The Beatles. In 2010, it was one of 160 songs included on the ten-CD set Wish We Were The Beatles: A Tribute To The Beatles' Greatest Hits, released by the German label Documents (#233083). Cussick has spent most of his career in Germany.

 
Frank Sinatra's triple album Trilogy: Past Present Future, released March 26 1980, included a remake of the Beatles' Something arranged by Nelson Riddle. The album peaked at #17 on the July 5 1980 Billboard 200 chart. It was nominated for a Grammy award for album of the year but lost to Christopher Cross's debut album, cleverly titled Christopher Cross.

 
Come Together: A Night For John Lennon's Words & Music, a benefit concert for the Robin Hood Foundation following the 9/11 terrorist attacks, took place October 2 2001 at Radio City Music Hall in New York City. It was shown on TNT and The WB and in December 2002 was released on DVD. Among the performers: Moby, Lou Reed, Kevin Spacey, Natalie Merchant, Nelly Furtado, Sean Lennon, Rufus Wainwright, Alanis Morissette, Billy Preston, Dave Matthews and Stone Temple Pilots. Cyndi Lauper sang Strawberry Fields Forever at the Strawberry Fields memorial in Central Park.

 
Andrew Gold, best known for Lonely Boy and Thank You For Being A Friend, included remakes of eight Beatles songs on his 13-song CD Copy Cat, released August 1 2008. The cover mimicked the cover of the U.S. version of the Beatles' A Hard Day's Night album. Here is his copycat version of Strawberry Fields Forever. Gold played all the instruments and sang all the vocals – not all at the same time, of course.

Much like Robin Quivers, Mama Cass, Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse and Emily Dickinson........I am completely in love with and totally attracted to Regina despite her being an extreme dogfaced gargoyle. Her voice and lyrics just get me.

This was at their first festival, The Clifford Ball, and when it gets going you can see how much fun they are all having. It was played in the third set of the second day of the festival on 8.17.96.
 
Strawberry Fields Forever has been recorded by more than 300 artists – but I'm going to share only one more version. I know when to quit. This is by the British instrumental quartet The Shadows from their Reflection album, released in September 1990. It was their final album before they broke up. The group formed in 1958 and for their first ten years were Cliff Richard's backing band. They had 28 top-40 hits, 16 top-ten hits and five number ones in the UK.

John Lennon's In My Life has been recorded by more than 550 artists including John Denver, Judy Collins, Cilla Black, Keith Moon, Ray Price, Johnny Cash, Sean Connery (!), Bette Midler, Ozzy Osbourne, Kathy Troccoli, the Dillards and Crosby Stills & Nash. I like the Seekers' version from their two-CD, 50-song compilation The Golden Jubilee Album released in November 2012. It was one of two new recordings on the album. The other was Silver Threads & Golden Needles.
