If the Beatles win either of those, it will be their eighth Grammy award. Their first Grammy wins came in 1964: best performance by a vocal group for A Hard Day's Night and best new artist. But the single of Now & Then was only 4:08. It omitted the bridge ("I don't want to lose you.....") of Lennon's five-minute demo. Also, the single was sped up. It was 88 BPM. Lennon's demo was 80 BPM. Here is the complete version:

While I also have some interest in some of those categories, I can't really think of anything useful to say about them. I mean, there's like 3 or 4 indie artists mentioned in total, plus a few alternative (but mainstream by now) ones that I'd like to see win, but perhaps not. When The Beatles and The Rolling Stones are up against St. Vincent, Nick Cave, and Pearl Jam, what's the right outcome?

My problem with all of it is this super-narrow focus. The same 5 or 6 artists are nominated in 3 or 4 categories each. Whether you're talking Adult Contemporary, Alternative Rock, Mainstream Rock, or Indie Rock, there should be dozens of artists representing each category, not 1 or 2. And then how do you decide between them?

You should definitely listen to Eminem "Houdini". It samples a very familiar song, and it's a lot of fun. And some rippin' lyrics!

"Fuck them, fuck Dre, fuck Jimmy, fuck me, fuck you, fuck my own kids they're brats!"
