Fleetwood Mac's live version of Landslide peaked at #51 on the August 8 1998 Hot 100. The original version – from their cleverly titled Fleetwood Mac album in 1975 – was never released as a single. Beginning with the December 5 1998 chart, "airplay-only" songs are eligible for the Hot 100. Data from streaming sites and on-demand services have been incorporated into the chart since August 11 2007. YouTube views (but only in the United States) have been incorporated into the Hot 100 since February 2013.

As IRBS hints at, Landslide, Purple Rain and Running Up That Hill are popular again because they were featured in the December 31 season finale of Stranger Things. For IRBS's sake, I hope Stranger Things never features A Horse With No Name or You Light Up My Life.

Not having watched it, I got the information from my son, that the songs somehow saved the person's life. If someone heard "A Horse WIth No Name" or "You Light Up My Life" it would make them want to die.

Taylor Swift's The Fate Of Ophelia debuted at number one on the October 18 2025 Hot 100 and remained in the top spot for eight weeks. Mariah Carey's All I Want For Christmas Is You then spent four weeks at number one – again! – and The Fate Of Ophelia returned to number one on the January 10 2026 chart. It was number one again on the January 17 chart. Billboard today published the Hot 100 chart for the week of January 24, 2026 – and Ophelia fell to #2. I Just Might, the first single from Bruno Mars' upcoming album The Romantic, debuted at number one. Broken chart!

I think Bruno and his band members traveled back in time to 1976 to buy their suits.

YouTube is pulling its data from Billboard for use in the publisher’s industry-leading U.S. music charts. The decision is in response to a recent change Billboard made to its ranking formula, which continues to add more weight to paid, on-demand streaming compared with ad-supported, free streaming.

Billboard justified its decision to adjust its age-old formula by saying that the change will “better reflect an increase in streaming revenue and changing consumer behaviors.”

In other words, streaming now matters more than buying albums or songs, so it wants its charts to reflect that.

However, YouTube doesn’t like the new formula because it doesn’t want there to be much — if any — differentiation between free and paid streams, especially if the changes are meant to reflect how consumers today are enjoying music.

“Billboard uses an outdated formula that weights subscription-supported streams higher than ad-supported. This doesn’t reflect how fans engage with music today and ignores the massive engagement from fans who don’t have a subscription,” a YouTube blog post published on Wednesday explains. “Streaming is the primary way people experience music, making up 84% of U.S. recorded music revenue.”

“We’re simply asking that every stream is counted fairly and equally, whether it is subscription-based or ad-supported—because every fan matters and every play should count,” the post notes.

The ranking changes will be reflected starting with the charts published on January 17, which will include data from January 2-8, 2026. This will impact the Billboard 200 lists and genre-based album charts. In addition, the ratio between paid/subscription and ad-supported on-demand streaming tiers will be adjusted to 2.5:1 for the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard said.

To protest the new formula, YouTube said it will no longer provide data to Billboard after January 16, 2026.

Billboard began publishing a Best Selling Popular Albums chart in 1945. It appeared sporadically until 1956 when it became a weekly chart. It is unfortunate that Bugs Bunny's 1947 album never made the chart.

Bad Bunny's DTMF – from his album DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS ("I Should Have Taken More Photos") peaked at #2 on the January 25 2025 Hot 100. It was on the chart for 20 weeks. This month the album won a Grammy award for album of the year and Bad Bunny sang DTMF at the Super Bowl haltrime show. DTMF re-entered the Hot 100 last week at #10. Tomorrow the Hot 100 for the week of February 21 will be published – and DTMF will be number one. Or should I say "numero uno."

Bad Bunny's Baile Inolvidable jumps from #19 to #2, Nuevayol jumps from #28 to #5 and Tití Me Preguntó, which peaked at #5 on the May 21 2022 Hot 100, re-enters at #7. So one artist has four songs in the top ten – and it isn't Taylor Swift!

Lest anyone think the title is obscene, I should point out that Tití Me Preguntó means "Auntie asked me." Tití is an affectionate form of tía ("aunt"). Time magazine named Tití Me Preguntó song of the year for 2022. In English, the song begins: "Auntie asked me if I have a lot of girlfriends, a lot of girlfriends. Today I have one, tomorrow I’ll have another."

I would tell Auntie to mind her own business.
