I never wanted to voluntarily part with money to make my TV picture worse.
I had a CRT until 2016. The flat screens before then I saw at everybody's houses before then looked like shit.
I'm reminded of how much those controls suck.
My mom just bought a 2025 Kia Seltos. My wife and I were helping her get accustomed to her first touchscreen in the car. But the 3 of us commented how all 3 of us went for cars that still have knobs and buttons, because we hate going through four sub-menus to turn something on/off or adjust it. In my car, changing the bass/treble requires that. GIMME A FRICKIN KNOB. You knob (take off, eh).

the seats have a rotary dial to turn on
This is what I pictured at first

When I visit my dad and drive his car, I really miss the camera.
When I drive my son's 2005 Corolla, I feel the same way. I actually look at his dashboard briefly while backing up, like a dodobrain.

BTW there are still a LOT of red 200x Corollas on the road!! Each time I see one, I yell out "red rolla!"

plus a fresh air vent on the dash (so you can mix cold outside air with heat and keep your head cool).
That is really cool and I had no idea that was a thing that existed in any car and I'm pretty sure nobody does besides weird Germans.

What do you call people in current times that would fit in perfectly in the gilded age?

What I like least about digital controls is that you often have to surf through multiple menus to get to the control that you want,

Oh that's interesting. With the venue I run Android auto which is basically 100% of the time a split screen between whatever podcast or music I'm listening to and maps.

I still have physical button controls for all the climate stuff and under the screen there are controls for the radio and what not which I use far more than the digital ones.

and then if you hit a bump, you end up missing the button that you want.

After I hit my first bump I wind hitting a whole bunch more and then after a while the car crashes.

I don't know if this is a thing for new cars or just cars made after 2005 because I had my '05 RAV and my 24 Venue.

The not having to use a key thing is actually cool now that I'm used to it, but my key fob actually has a key in it.

However, there is nowhere on the door handle on the part of the car like under the steering wheel where you would normally put a key in like older cars. There's nowhere that has a keyhole.

I assume this key is for the Hyundai mechanics and they would have to like pop off. Dad plastic thing underneath the steering wheel and there might be a keyhole under there. Like you know the area where people who hotwire cars in movies like fuck around to get the car started but I don't know that for sure.

Here is the hidden key and I have yet to find the hidden keyhole.

The key is for the car door for when the battery starts to die. I think you are supposed to put the fob right up against the button to get it to start. This allows you to drive to the dealership to get batteries replaced.

I brought my car in for an oil change - and wouldn't you know it - it needs more work. So they gave me this new, $75k BMW i5 all electric as a loaner.

It's very comfortable and likely super-powerful, but for driving it home and then back to the dealer, I'm not going to take a crash course in figuring out how the hundreds of display functions work

So after he showed me how to start it, and put it in drive, I got in and just went forward. I only had to adjust the seat, mirrors, and turn on the auto wipers. I didn't touch anything else. The entire concept of this car is the polar opposite of the one I own.

I like how electric beamers still keep a normal grill. Lots of electric cars fuck around with the grill and just make it one solid piece of fiberglass or plastic or whatever.

And I know, all you nerds think being fun means we can't have anything nice but....

If I had a super fancy rental car while I was waiting for my little bit older super fancy car to get fixed one of my first thoughts would be to christen it with Pam before I gave it back.

So......???

That was one of the things I had to initial for: no smoking, no pets, and no splooging in the back seat.

It's for looks. If you get up close, you'll see that in-between the grill bars, it's not open, but a solid black. The entire under-hood is the battery.
It's like somebody asked the question "How can we make BMWs more obnoxious?".
It used to be that each brand had a certain character. Mercedes was opulence, Audi was clean inconspicuousness, and BMW was sporty. Now, because of the sheer cost of entry, they all have to say "fuck-you; I own this". However, the used BMW market is doing great. Because people like me, who couldn't afford a $50k car in 2008 (even as a lease), can get one for a fraction of the cost now.

Returning the electric loaner, and getting my car back, I'm reminded how superfluous a stick-shift car is. I mean, for a long time, no one has really needed to own a stick in this country; but at least there was an argument for its advantages. But with electric cars, there's not even the need for a transmission. So now my stick-shift car is a novelty, kind-of like a wristwatch.

When I say these things please note I'm just talking about myself and my lady friends. I would never even think about disrespecting the angelic dog lover that gave us the pantry window.

So if I signed a contract not to splooge in the backseat, I believe I would still be within the terms of the contract while having some fun.

When I am in my bed with #hipam (thank God she doesn't look at this anymore by the way) and splooging happens, that doesn't mean I am splooging in my bed.

Prepositions are important. With the rental beamer I would be sitting on the backseat and splooging in a different location.

Words matter. Bill Clinton said it best to the grand jury in 1998, "it depends on what the meaning of the word is, is".

It's for looks.

Yeah it's weird. My RAV had a fake air intake on the hood and I hated it. But electric cars with that piece of plastic instead of an air intake front grill bothers me so a fake one is more aesthetically pleasing.
