Car Talk

Customers, shareholders, and employees can put a bit of pressure on companies that gouge the public like a lot of them are doing. Granted, it doesn’t happen often, but it should.

And yes, there is a decent amount of jealousy involved because I can’t crank my fees up for no good reason.
DRC surcharge. Your welcome.

Gas stayed at 4.49 maybe jumped to 4.59 but today was kinda a big deal. All my local stations were at 4.75 today. I think that is an all time high in my lifetime.

What's the lowest you ever remember gas? When I was a little boy and we'd get into jersey on our way to vacation at the shore I'm pretty sure I remember $0.99. And back then in jersey they had this weird law where they had to pump it for you.

Haha, it's not "back then"; it's always been a law, and it's still a law.
So my sister/brother-in-law (from Jersey) came up to visit about 3 years ago. I had to run some errands, and the bro came along for the ride (keep in mind that I've lived in New England since 1984). I stop to get gas, and he says to me, "So you know how to pump it yourself?" He can be a real sarcastic guy, but in this case, he was serious. He didn't know if I've just been going to full-serve for the past 35 years.

That might make a good thread - peculiarities about the state you live in. Just the liquor-buying situation alone could get the thread going.

Oh, and this from 1986 will make ya wanna build a time machine

In my local area today, a gallon of gas is $6.34 at Mobil, $6.60 at Shell and $6.60 at Chevron. I just bought gas at Arco
for $5.99 a gallon – which is what we now consider to be cheap.

I read an article about how $6 gas in Cali is better than $4 gas in Mississippi, because of the relative wages. So hopefully, that'll make you feel better. :D

Like seafood right off the boat (which is amazing by the way)
It is. We get lobster and oysters right off the boat.

Back to oil, it's a little more complicated. To get gasoline for cars, it has to be refined. And New Jersey is a prime location for that. So they have pretty cheap prices too.
