You definitely don't want to get into how un-green lithium batteries are. Solar and wind are great for surge power. Solar is possibly slightly more effective as you go more south. If you are talking base power you are looking at: nuclear, hydro or coal as the only current viable alternatives. None of those are great for the environment. As to the comment about Trump, can't really give you advise on this forum.

Any suggestions on how to respond? Or just keep my yap shut?

This is an easy one, since these idiots never bother to look at facts. Here's the official government website

U.S. Field Production of Crude Oil (Thousand Barrels per Day)

And here's the data, spoon-fed to him, with bright colors and all. It's a section of the monthly domestic oil production in thousands of barrels. Red is Trump admin, blue is Biden admin. Shading is period affected by Covid. For fairness, I'm comparing both admins under the same condition.

1656007992722.png

As you can see, nothing was slowed-down or reduced by the current admin. It's all just bullshit propaganda. And although the Keystone XL pipeline section (for which Biden withdrew the permit on his 1st day) was approved in 2017 by Trump, it never went anywhere. And then there's this:

On July 6, 2020, in the US Army Corps of Engineers v. Northern Plains Resource Council case, the Supreme Court of the US ordered all Keystone XL work be halted.

So the project was delayed, and ultimately halted, long before Biden took office. And anyway, it would've have been years until the mostly Canadian oil would be coming through that particular branch. It has no effect on current production figures.

And by the way, this tactic of just making up facts is not new. Here's the chart for the 8 years of the Obama admin

That's a pretty steady increase in production, wouldn't you say? In 2016, because of wars and election instability and other worldwide events, things stalled. But overall, domestic production nearly doubled.

Boy that's the truth.

Thanks for mapping that out so beautifully! It also gives me a better understanding of what's going on, so I appreciate it.

I'm sure they'll say it's the government lying. But it's still worth dropping the comment.

I usually don't get into this kind of debate online (y'know the old saying: arguing on the internet is like running in the Special Olympics, even if you win...) but the guy posting stuff is a friend of my father-in-law and I just tire of the constant misinformation. You can see by my answers, I approach it gingerly. No attacks just facks. And I'm no fan of either party's handling of situations, so I'm not defending anybody, just (as they say in old school rap) dropping science.

It's the same agency reporting the same data, regardless of (and independent of) whatever administration is in the executive branch. Same with the BLS (Bureau of Labor Statistics). During Obama's stint, we went from the great recession unemployment peak of 10% to under 5% at the end of his tenure. And someone (you know who) was calling that figure fake and rigged. But the minute he took office (maybe even the day after the election), it was instantly the correct number.

Yeah, I can see how this could be a problem.

What a freakin' bizarre story. I didn't even know these Toyota models existed, because they're brand new. You'd think that would be sorted out during development and testing. But here's the most bizarre statement

Toyota doesn't know, yet, how to fix the issue, the automaker said.

What?! Suddenly, they don't know how to keep wheels from falling off a car?

I'm posting this story cause it says he was going 98 in a 35. It made me wonder...2 things...how fast have you ever gone. And when you speed how fast is it normally?

I've hit maybe 105 on the way to Disney a couple times. Just wanted to see if the RAV could do it. But it's on a freaking highway and only for like 5 seconds before I'm satisfied.

The road I live on now is 45 so I usually keep it at 50 but have done 60 or so a few times. In general when I speed (5 over doesn't count) I usually keep it at like 10 over. To me that's nothing crazy.

I've had a couple of my cars up to about 115. Usually when I'm over the limit it's by 9 or 10.
I'm getting old and I'd rather get better gas mileage and avoid speeding tickets.

When I was real young, my cousin got his car up to 90. That held the record until the owner of the company had me take his Porsche to get Bluetooth installed. I was cruising down I-93 thinking I'm doing 75 but when I looked at the speedometer it was 95. Yikes! I figured, "Well, I'm almost there and will probably never do it if I don't do it now." So I took it up to 100 for 5-10 seconds, then slowed the hell down.

Usually I'm 6-9 MPH over the limit. Unless everyone else is going 15 over, then it's "when in rome..."

You guys are amateurs. I think I told the story of how I got a Corvette at the end of my freshman year of college. That would do somewhere between 130 and 135, and I did that on the occasion I needed to. But the craziest time was racing my friend down to the Jersey shore. I had it up to 120 with the T-tops off.

After that, I got a fun but mild little Mercedes 190E. But then I got the itch for speed, and got a Mustang GT 5.0. That was my fastest car, which I got up to 140 on a big stretch of highway. It's pretty nuts, because you're covering ground so quickly.

My last top-speed run was in my first BMW, a 325iS. Right after I bought it, I had to spend a week working 3rd shift, which started at 11:30pm. On 2 or 3 nights, I picked a smooth, downhill portion of the highway to run it up over 130. I don't think I've gone much over 100 in any other car I've had.

But by far, the most insane thing I did was winding along the Merrimack river on a lunchtime ride with a fellow biker. I think I was riding my Honda Magna 750, and I tried to keep up with him, getting up over 110 flying past the U Mass Lowell campus. I think the speed limit was 35 or 40, maybe 45.

I generally do just under 15 over the limit on highways. So 79 in a 65. I keep it around 10 over on town routes. Except the road my street is off of, Cider Hill Rd (Rt. 91), is 45 mph near me, and I can't really do much more than that.

I have done 140. Now that is kph of course. Did that in South Dakota where their max was 80 (130kph). My rule: 10 kph over speed limit in States. 20 kph over in Canada.

I've just never considered the risk of killing myself or others to be worth it. One time I was in the back seat of a car. My friend was in the passenger seat (female) and a friend of hers was driving. Just to show off, he took it up to 90 on a 35. Residential. Neither of us were impressed. We both just thought he was a tool. Coulda killed a kid, someone on a bike, us (if an animal jumped out in the road), etc.

That aside, if there is an occasion that is relatively safe (I hear about highways in the west that have no speed limit) and you got a sweet ride that can handle it, by all means. I'm a little bit chicken in that regard, I'll admit. But I do understand the need...... for speed.
