Concerts you have attended?

  • Bay City Rollers [03/11]

I just got word that Neil Sedaka has cancelled his concert. I fear this means his health has taken a turn for the worse. Likely one more we won't get to see on this side of Rock'N'Roll Heaven.

Next up is Loverboy & Trooper.

I have added a comedian I have booked as he is sort of a concert. He is a comedian my son really likes. A youtuber. He has seemed pretty funny in the clips he has shown me.

Another addition. James Taylor w/Bonnie Raitt.

Revised list (with dates):

  • Crash Test Dummies [02/01]

My god, the 70s & 80s are exploding. Just announced at the local casino: Prism & Honeymoone Suite (2 bands only a Canadian will get), Chilliwack & Streetheart (probably the same), and Gordon Lightfoot. Unfortunatly I will only be able to add Prism & Honeymoon Suite to the list as I have conflicts on the other dates. However, I may get to see Gordon later in Rochestor, NY if I can arrange vacation time. I will of course update my list as I add concerts. I know you are all waiting with bated breath for updates.

Honeymoon Suite made it in the States. (My crappy band plays New Girl Now)
I remember the band name Chilliwack, but don't remember any of their songs.
It seems like there were dozens of bands with street and or heart in their names in the 80’s. Without googling them, I don’t remember em.

Well the Eagles are heading to the playoffs, I have a beautiful new lady interest in my life, it's the holidays...why not catch another couch tour show? Just spent $25 to watch the Phish webcast tonight. It's night 2 of their MSG new year's run.

This will be a good time.

So does the guy (now 68 or so) still come out in a shiny red leather jumpsuit?

The answer is no. Thank God! The guy (Mike Reno) is fat as hell including a huge beer belly.

The concert last night was over all pretty good. We endured ice-ma-geddon for rock n roll.

Trooper did all (but 1) of their hits. A couple I have never heard as well. They also did one new song which reading the internet has been alleged to be coming on a new album since about 2014. The sound engineer was on some sort of drugs. The guitars were much too loud compared to the vocals. A couple of tracks though the lead vocalist seemed to be out of step with the music. The band also seemed stuck in the 70s. It had the obliguitory drum, guitar and keyboad solos. But I enjoyed their show despite these shortcomings.

Loverboy was much better technically. They however did not do any of their good songs until the end of the concert. I discovered they had lots of hits which I had forgotten about and some I have never heard. While these souded fine it did make me not connect with the band. They should have opened with one of their hits and mixed in the other stuff better. The last 5 or 6 songs including the encore was awesome though. The only blemish on this concert was the arrival of some obnoxious 30somethings and the over-intoxication of some 50somethings in our area. We didn't let them interrupt our enjoyment of Loverbody.

Overall, a good show. And a good adventure. I did lose $45 at the casino however. My wife lost $5. This includes $10 given to us by a couple who was waiting for a cab at our hotel. We offered them a ride and they insisted on giving us money.

Crash Test Dummies was an excellent concert. Did all their good songs. Lead singer no longer plays guitar himself. But still has same bass voice. Their sound guy wasn't that good. But still enjoyable show.

Saw Prism & Honeymoon Suite last night. Good show. I like the music of Prism better but since they lost their lead singer in a bicycle crash in 1984, they lost a unique vocal style. The lead guitarist tried to make up for it and on the songs he did normal lead on, he was good. But the other songs were not as good. Plus he tried to be too goofy as a lead singer to compensate and it didn't work as well. On the plus side they introduced and thanked their sound guy. As a sound guy, I thought that was cool. Honeymoon Suite was better in terms of sound. But they seemed stuck in the 80s (same hair cuts). I guess that is by design. Concert did not move me as much as Prism.

On our way into the casino we had to upgrade our loyalty cards as they had upgraded. As we were chatting about perks they offered us a free concert to "Celtic Woman" on 04/03. We took it. My wife liked them. I had never heard of them until last week. Their song "You Raise Me Up" was one of my mom's favourites and it was done by a soloist at her funeral. I found the offer and timing to be a bit eerie and will likely baul my head off when she does that song.

Below is revised list:
  • Drew Lynch [03/07 Toronto, ON]
  • Bay City Rollers [03/11 Richmond Hil, ONl]
  • Celtic Woman [04/03 Orillia, ON]
  • April Wine [04/16 Richmod Hill, ON]
  • James Taylor w/ Bonnie Raitt [04/27 Toronto, ON]
  • Miranda Lambert [05/05 London, ON]
  • Gordon Lightfoot [06/04 Rochester, NY]
  • Steely Dan w/Steve Winwood [06/23 Toronto, ON]
I have been not booking too much more as my wife wants to pause for a bit. But a couple that are coming that have caught my eye:
  • Steve Miller Band
  • Randy Bachman + Burton Cummings

Others I would like to see but our out of our price range for the venue:
  • Journey with The Pretenders
  • Elton John
