DRC Madness #23 - DRC All-Time Songs

The background singers on Elvis Presley's Suspicious Minds were not credited on the label. It was a group called Southern Comfort: sisters Mary Holladay, and Ginger Holladay with Jeannie Greene and Donna Thatcher. Donna married pianist Keith Godchaux in 1970. Keith was a member of the Grateful Dead from 1971 to 1980 and Donna sang with the Dead from 1972 to 1979.

Here is the original 1968 version of Suspicious Minds by Mark James, the man who wrote it. He also wrote Hooked On A Feeling, co-wrote Always On My Mind and wrote and recorded the original version of Moody Blue, which Elvis would have a hit with in early 1977.

@WolFyre and @Jon had their #1 choices above. They were the only 2 voters who did not have at least one someone else vote for their #1 song. A bit surprising since they are good songs but there are a lot of good songs on this countdown. Also, now that we are beyond 50 points, there will be no more songs on the countdown with a single voter.

I could swear someone else had Another Brick way up high on their list. In fact, I thought it was IRBS.

I think it's a great, iconic song from one of the great theme albums. At the outset, I would've bet money that it would be near the top of my list. But it got pushed out of my top 50.

I like Danzer Zone a lot, too. But not that high up.

"Another Brick in the Wall" is #144 on my 447 list. Just not top 50. And yes it is a great song. I feel the same way as you about "Danger Zone". Good song. Not on my 447.

I am glad I found the original version of the "Money For Nothing" video. Nothing pisses me off more than hearing the edited version of that song.

This takes us to the top 40. I will pause here for a couple days, I may do another batch tomorrow morning (time depending). And I may be back Friday else Saturday.

But before I go, here a couple of videos I thought of as I was posting tonight's videos.

Smells Like Nirvana is one of my favorite Weird Al videos – one of many. "Now I'm mumblin' and I'm screamin' and I don't know what I'm singin'." And the mouthful of marbles was a perfectly reasonable explanation for why Kurt Cobain sang the way he did.

I appreciate all the time and effort you've put in to this list, IRBS. You deserve a hearty hand clasp. For anyone who hasn't seen W.C. Fields' The Bank Dick (1940), in which Fields' character, Egbert Sousé, manages to capture a bank robber, here is the "hearty hand clasp":
