Thanks Wolf! This was the first time I've voted remotely on my phone! The point I deducted from Paper Lace "The Night Chicago Died " I gave to Helen Reddy "Angie Baby" for singing "It's so nice to be insane no one asks you to complain "

Wolf, I just voted – again – for the 1974 songs. Do our new votes automatically cancel our earlier votes when only 20 songs were on the list?

The Spinners are one of my favorite 1970s groups. Mighty Love was number one on the R&B chart for two weeks in March 1974 and peaked at #20 on the Hot 100. Here is the 4:55 album version. For release as a single, it was cut into a "Part 1" and "Part 2." Most radio stations that played the song played only "Part 1."

I went to the 1974 page that lists all 35 number ones, not the page that lists the 15 added songs. Wolf can figure it out. I'm afraid if I vote a third time, I will be accused of voter fraud.
Some of the new scores are a bit different to the ones you already submitted already. I can go with your updated scores now.

All six have finished with the updated 1974 part 2 form. I will lock that form, so no new submissions can come in on that one.

For IRBS:

"I'm not going to vote for A Horse With No Name
I hate that song more than you know
If anyone asks if I like it
I will hold my nose and I will go:
No! No! No, no, no, no!
No, no, no! No! No!
No! No! No, no, no,no!
No, no, no! No! No!"

With 8 9 votes in, I’m starting to set up the main first-round tournaments soon. To make things easier, given the number of songs per year, the top 16 songs with the highest point totals for each year will advance to the first-round tournament.

1970 - 21
1971 - 18
1972 - 21
1973 - 27
1974 - 35
1975 - 35
1976 - 26
1977 - 28
1978 - 19
1978 - 23

Among the number-one albums of 1973-76:

No Secrets – Carly Simon (5 weeks)
Houses Of The Holy – Led Zeppelin (2 weeks)
Living In The Material World – George Harrison (5 weeks)
Goodbye Yellow Brick Road – Elton John (8 weeks)
Band On The Run – Paul McCartney & Wings (4 weeks)
Caribou – Elton John (4 weeks)
Greatest Hits – Elton John (10 weeks)
Physical Graffiti – Led Zeppelin (6 weeks)
Captain Fantastic & The Brown Dirt Cowboy – Elton John (7 weeks)
Wings At The Speed Of Sound – Paul McCartney & Wings (7 weeks)
Songs In The Key Of Life – Stevie Wonder (14 weeks)

I propose our next DRC Madness be "Best albums of the 1970s."

I find that 1970-72 and 1977-79 had better songs than 1973-76. They had some great albums in those middle years, but the hits were lacking, imo.
I took one example to look into; I picked Elton John. During '73-'75, great songs like Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Candle In the Wind, Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, The Bitch is Back, and Someone Saved My Life Tonight reached as high as #2, but not #1. Meanwhile, a steaming shitpile like Island Girl reached #1. Maybe it was due to the disco invasion.

On the Cash Box Top 100, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me and Someone Saved My Life Tonight were number-one hits. Candle In The Wind, from the Goodbye Yellow Brick Road album, was released as a single in the UK and peaked at #11 on the March 3 1974 Official Singles chart. It was not released as a single in the United States and therefore was ineligible to chart. The Cash Box Top 100 did not include songs that were not released as singles – and Billboard did not begin including such songs (designated "airplay only") on the Hot 100 until December 1998.
