The original song was number one on the country chart for four weeks in October-November 1990. For many years, Garth sang the third verse in concerts. A live version was finally included on an album in 1998: "Just wait till I finish this glass. Then I'll go back to my friends at the bar and you can........."

I know the history and have seen him in concert. I also have the double live CD (or more correctly my wife did). The original song and this song will both qualify for this madness.

Oh boy, another song parody which nobody (especially IRBS) asked for!

"Blame it all on my horse
I loved him, of course
But I don't think that he had a name
He ran through the desert
And inspired a hit song
And earned a great deal of fame

Not everyone likes him
I understand that
And there's nothing that I can do
Except write this song
So all can sing along
And maybe it will be a hit too

Oh, I've got a horse with no name
Name or not, it's all the same
Until he dies or until he goes lame
I've got a horse.....with no name"

I finished step 1: grabbing all the 90s songs from my Scotch Sampler favorites list. It's 184 entries; each one is one or more songs. So maybe it's 300 or 400 songs. Step 2 will be paring those down.

My song listening at home or office is through iTunes (Music Match). It counts number of plays. I dumped 90s to excel sorted by play count, then assigned quick ratings for the songs to figure out my favorites.
I don’t have either of those things available.

In my opinion, if the album was released or charted in the 1990s, they would qualify.
If any song from any album that charted in the 90s counts, I could triple my list. But I won't do that. My list just has songs that hit a Billboard chart.

*****
Iris – Goo Goo Dolls (18, 29, 45, 47)

****
Macarena – Los Del Rio (14, 23, 37, 60)
I Will Always Love You – Whitney Houston (14, 16, 24, 26)

***
Smooth – Santana/Rob Thomas (12, 30, 50, 58)

**
Don't Speak – No Doubt (16, 28, 52, 63)
Candle In The Wind 1997 – Elton John (14, 17, 28, 42)
I'll Make Love To You – Boyz II Men (14, 22, 31, 33)
End Of The Road – Boyz II Men (13, 19, 28, 32)

*
One Sweet Day – Mariah Carey/Boyz II Men (16, 19, 26, 27)
The Boy Is Mine – Brandy/Monica (13, 18, 27, 27)

I'd recommend taking psychedelic drugs, and channeling the 90s.

Yeah, I will have to deal with the whole idea of including those songs. For one, I'll need to pare-down the list. But also, I'm thinking that obscure songs will just drop out anyway, because no one else will have them on their list. And this is more or less a popularity contest, right?

That is a good part of my consideration for selecting songs. It makes me think that I should stick with my picks from the charts.
I mean, songs like Battleflag from The Lo-Fi Allstars aren't going to get any votes, but a lot of my favorite stuff from the decade weren't mainstream tunes.
