I'm going to take that other job that I mentioned in the other thread.
It's a bigger firm with more stability and the projects are bigger, which is more my niche anyway.
I'm going to give my current office my 3 week notice on Tuesday so I can finish up a couple of projects before I jump ship.
This isn't quite how I expected my vacation to go.

Will they allow you to finish your projects or will you be forced to take a back seat?
 
I'll finish the projects I'm working on at the moment.
They don't have anyone else that can pick them up before the deadlines. The new boss wanted me to start sooner, but I told him I couldn't leave the old boss hanging like that. I'd be SHOCKED if the old boss told me to just get the hell out.
He's a good guy, and I feel kinda bad for that, but the new gig is too good of an opportunity.

This will be very different.
The current office has 7 employees, the new place has more than 100 in the local office and about 2000 in other offices coast to coast.
When I was working at the university, they had about 2000 employees, but the largest architectural office I worked at had 50 people.
 
That's a major difference in workplace structure. Will you have to go in 5 days a week, or you can work remotely sometimes?
 
It's kind of flexible. There's one guy that has been working at home since COVID hit.
Generally, as long as the work gets done, I get to the meetings I need to be at, and I'm communicating with my staff, they don't care where I am. (Make them money, and all is well.)

So it's the giant corporate structure, but I used to work with the guy that's running the department. (We're drinking buddies.) I used to work with the guy that's been working from home, and they just hired an interior designer that I used to work with at an old office, and she freelanced at my current office. One of the guys that interviewed me is a structural engineer that I used to work with back in 1993. It's going to bean easy transition.
 
Sheesh. How much money was originally invested into buying the land and building what's there. Now subtract 5 mil. That's all wasted money. Imagine what else could have been done with that money....
 
Annnnnd......today I'm unemployed.

I start the new gig on Monday.
The old gig wasn't bad, but I'm looking forward to the new one.
