Quick aside before I even start. I searched "put my new shoes on" cause I knew I started this thread at some point and I searched through 10 pages and it wasn't there. Argh. Found it by going to start a new thread and typing it in as the title and it came up as a related thread.
I guess the last time I had name brand shoes was in 2020 in my last post. And those were all cheap ones from Ross Dress for Less. Anyway I wear a uniform at work. A PS shirt and dark shorts or pants and a PS hat. I wanted a way to wear something Eagles at work so I've been looking into Birds shoes. There are a ton of really cool ones you can get online but only 1 official pair of Eagles shoes they sell on their site:
For the past 5 years I've been wearing some version of these $20 Walmart sneakers:
So this Nike pair is really cool. I get to rep my Brids at work without violating any uniform policy. What I didn't expect is how much more comfortable they are than the $20 pair. I figured I was paying $150 for the brand. But they are so much better.
Wearing them the first couple days I noticed a bump or whatever on the right side of my left foot and the left side of my right foot. I thought it was weird until I realized that was arch support. Hahahahahah. I wasn't used to that cause apparently you don't get that with Walmart shoes.

They have a thick sole that's shaped to eliminate foot pain when walking/running. They come in a million models and styles, from basic black (like mine) to full-on Magical Mystery Tour. They also have good arch supports and all that. Plus, they're expensive, and not discounted anywhere. So you just find what you need, buy them, and don't haggle. That's what mature people do. They're convinced they need them, so they just get them. Best I can tell, Mrs. Scotch has 3 pairs.

Got new Birkenstocks today. I made a note of when I got my last pair and it was almost exactly 2 years ago, 4.4.24. I know people say they have their Birke forever but I think two years is pretty good. The left one literally had a hole in the back of it so that made me realize it was time to go get some new ones.
I had to go to this horrible mega mall called the Sawgrass Mills Mall. I hate it. It's always busy and it's gigantic so it's hard to find anything and parking sucks. The normal place I get them is a standalone store. I looked it up and their weekends are the same as mine so they'd never be open for me to go there.
They were $98. Not exactly cheap but the one upside of going to Sawgrass is that it's definitely cheaper than the standalone store. The internet says these normally go anywhere from what I paid to $140 and I'm positive they would have been closer to $140 at my normal place.
I'm an old man and they told me the only way I could get a receipt was by giving them my email which I didn't want to do. But I didn't try them on cause I always get the Arizona's in size 45 but since I didn't try them on I figured I should get a receipt just in case so they got my fucking email and now I'll get back emails for the rest of my life so that's wonderful.
The place was also super busy. I grabbed the first pair of Arizona's in 45 that I saw so I could get out of there as quickly as possible. I usually get taupe and these are latte cream. They're fine.
Getting in and out of that store as quickly as possible even if it means wearing color I've never worn before for the next 2 years was 100% worth it.
We'll see if these make it past the 2 year mark.

I'm guessing there aren't too many people with your voter registration wearing Birkenstocks.
I've had these Keens for a few years.
They're perfect for walking in warm weather, or at the beach or other types of water. But I wore them most of the week in Costa Rica, and it caused such severe chafing on the outsides of my big toes, that 2 months later, I'm just now beginning to lose the scabs. So I will be looking for something else.

I think we all assumed some chafing would occur during your romantic trip to Costa Rica with the Mrs.
But seriously, WOW!!!!! It has taken 2 months to heal? That does not seem normal. And the fact that it happened on both big toes means it must be the sandals and not some other variable. That sucks man, sorry. Glad it's finally better.

I wear flip flop type shoes all summer except when going to work or somewhere I have to do a lot of walking. My feet don't chafe but being exposed to the elements does take their tole on them by the fall.

It seemed odd to me too. During the vacation, we averaged 3 to 5 miles miles per day of walking. And that was the problem. Those Keens were fine for spending the day outdoors, or walking the beach at home. But they're not made for miles of walking. By the end of the trip, I had an oval-shaped open wound on the outer-facing side of both big toes. Then, it took some time to scab over. Maybe a week or 2. But after that, the scabs were just there for months. One of them went away about a week ago. But the other one is still there.
If I wore the Hoka walking sneakers, this wouldn't have happened. But I wasn't going to do a week in 90+ degree tropical heat wearing closed shoes.
