I just saw on Facebook a (fake) poster for a live-action Frozen movie starring Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen as Elsa and Anna. Mary-Kate and Ashley retired from acting in 2012 so they could focus on their careers in the fashion industry. Of course many gullible schmucks say they're looking forward to the movie. My message to them: "There is no such movie! Let it go!"

I needed to be able to maintain the band's page. We all have an excuse as to why we're on it.
I joined MySpace to promote my band at the time: Sadchild. Then Facebook overtook MySpace so I joined there. Most of my "friends" are just fans.

However, I do use it to keep my actual friends, and family (who I don't see regularly anymore cuz they moved away) updated on general things in life (like the shed we just installed, when we got a new wood stove, photos from vacations, when my son got accepted to MIT, when he graduated high school, etc).

I mute people who 1) post about every other dumb thought they have 2) constantly repost stuff they didn't come up with (everything they see that makes them even smirk gets reposted).

Facebook is being inundated with fake, error-filled, AI-created movie posters. Two of the latest are for Titanic 2: The Return Of Jack starring "LENDARDO DECAPPLIO" and Titanic 2: Legacy Of The Heart starring "LEONARDO WICARIC, EKEE WIINCES, KATHLY ZATES, FRANCES FISHER." Why is Facebook not removing all these fake movie posters – many with links that I hope nobody would be dumb enough to click on – and banning the morons who post them?

It's self-perpetuating, like sadchild's reels. The more you reference it, and talk about it, the more you get.

I follow F1, so I get a lot of F1-related news stories, many of which are from tabloid-like sites. One showed Lewis Hamilton rebuking US Press Secretary Caroline Leavitt, which never happened. Now, he may have been asked about a statement she made, and he responded. So they put pictures to it, and made it seem like a direct interaction. But that happens all the time in news stories. They use "stock footage" to represent the reaction of the person in the story. I also see a lot of AI generated pictures of drivers looking like they've signed with different teams (they're wearing the uniform), but everyone knows it's just for laughs.

The reels on my personal Facebook have been fine for a while now, but since I created one for my new music project - and haven't clicked on any reels yet - guess what FB assumes the average person wants to see....

Mine are different.
Steve Stevens, some guitar gear nerd stuff, and no clue what the broad in the middle is about. I can't tell if it's a Halloween thing, or some ethnic thing.
We've ordered Thai and Mexican food in the last week, and I've got an international cast of friends, so who knows.

I've gotten a lot of reals from Yankee fans commiserating about their team. I actually have more respect for a lot of them because they most were not "Blue Jays suck" but all the things they thought were wrong with the Yankees. Sounded a lot like Blue Jay fans when things aren't going well.

This could also go in the Dumb Dodo thread.

Every once in a while, Facebook gives me a notification that "someone highlighted a comment for you to check out". What's happening is that these dimwitted Facebook friends see a post that says "you should type @highlight in a comment, and if it turns blue, you've entered the contest". Like in this post:

So then thousands of people comment with @highlight, thinking they're entering a contest. But of course, what that does is send a notification to every one of their Facebook friends, directing them to the post. I have 2 or 3 unaware friends who fall for these scams.

I'm glad I don't really participate on FB.
I think that I'm down to about 10 or 12 minutes once a week and that's pretty much it.

I know Facebook is certainly listening and spying. The other day, I was doing some research on Google, looking for a new home desk possibly an adjustable gaming desk. I was also browsing Amazon for a monitor mount for my Samsung Odyssey G9.

Yesterday and today, I started seeing advertisements for Secretlab desks and ultrawide monitor mounts, along with Uplift desks, which I had previously seen while searching on Google. I never typed any of these company names into Facebook.

I always clear my cookies on my browser for privacy and security reasons. I don't log onto Facebook on my computer. Unless Facebook collects cookies from other apps like Amazon and Google on the phone.

Yes. But also, anything you say or type is monitored to target for ads and articles. If you say it out loud within earshot of your phone, or type it into anything, including text messages and web searches, that links to everything, such as Facebook, ads you get during games, ads on other web sites.
