Babe Ruth was also a no show.
 
Our next Jays game would have been last Friday against Pittsburgh but we had to move it due to the Marlies game. That game was a Jays victory. Tonight's game was our next Jays game. We got to See Trey Yesavage pitch. He had his stuff on occasion but did not have his best game. The defence was also shoddy at best (the hometown scorer did not count 3 plays as errors but hits). In addition the offense was MIA. This lead to a 8-2 defeat. The Jays were without Vladdy who got injured yesterday. The manager elected to give Vasho the day off as well. Nice to be back at a Jays game. It was a sellout. I liked it before mid last year when everybody assumed they were going to suck and it wasn't so crowded.

We saw the Jays lose to the Phillies tonight 5-2. What's worse, the 3 Phillies on my fantasy team had poor nights. But it was good to be out at the ballpark. With the Marlies still churning on, my mind is still on hockey.
 
Tonight we were back at the park. It was the first game back for the Jays after the all-star break. A nice 4 days off. So naturally, the first game back we start are #5 starter known as "bullpen day". And the result was about what you would expect. Jays lost 12-4 to the Chicago White Sox (who are doing surprisingly well this year). We sat next to a young couple no older than 23 or 24. The discussion started when he asked if he should make an online bet that the Jays would win. They were down 8-4 in the 6th at the time. We all laughed and told him only if he wanted to throw away his money. He decided to take the bet. He bet $25 and had he won, he would have won $325. He later explained that 2 years ago he created his account and put $20 in it. He has taken money out when it goes over $200 but the $94 balance he had was all from that initial $20 so he considers it free money. He has $25 less than $94 now.

Anyway it was a good time at the ballpark. The dome was closed due to smokey skies.
 
I'll never understand all the Dodgers hate. There's always teams with more money than God - the main difference is the Dodgers front office is smarter & not afraid to use that money. You wanna be mad, be mad at the teams that are loaded but suck. Or the ones that refuse to spend the money they DO have.

MLB has a Luxury Tax. This is supposed to be a disinsentive for the Dodgers to be doing what they are doing. Doesn't work if they just pay it.

However, it does not make the other 29 MLB teams too happy. It also doesn't make fans of the other 29 MLB teams too happy. Every year since I can remember I have always bought a pack of about 10 games a year. My son tells me he is done. Does not want to do it anymore. Can't say I blame him.

For 2027 it won't matter anyway. There won't be baseball. In 2028 there will likely be some form of salary cap and salary floor. It will be fun watching the Dodgers be carved up. And 8 years from now when the defered part of Otani's salary comes due and virtually strangles the Dodgers cap space will also be fun to watch. I have no doubt they will be the #1 whiners about how it isn't fair. I look forward to telling them to suck it.

And yes there have always been teams that buy there way to World Series (or try to). One of the reason for my longstanding hate of the New York Yankees.
