All I wanted was some steak
Moving this here. These are the posts so far.
Let's continue here.
I'm working on my take on the silly top 500 list. Stay tuned.
In 2003, Rolling Stone published a list of The 500 Greatest Albums Of All Time. The list was updated in 2012 and on December 31, 2023. In the latest ranking, Pet Sounds is #2. Golly gee, what is number one? I will tell you that it is not Sgt. Pepper's. That ranked #24. Here is the list:

The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time
To remake our greatest albums list, we tabulated Top 50 Albums lists from more than 300 artists, producers, critics, music-industry figures.www.rollingstone.com
I wonder if a human exists who actually likes all these albums, and in this order. I can't imagine anyone having nearly equal enthusiasm for The Beatles, Kanye West, Radiohead, Joni Mitchell, The Beach Boys, Public Enemy, and Marvin Gaye.
Beyond Kanye West I could probably come closest. Besides him I do listen/have listened to the others.
I looked through the bottom 50 and I have listened to 0 of them. Some of them I have heard songs released from the album. But I likely could list maybe 25 total albums that I have listened to track 01 --> 99. Some of them may be on that list. Maybe somebody whose user name ends in 2 numbers could translate this list to ascii text and post it.
I could do that – but it would be easier (and faster) to post the link to the list that is posted on Wikipedia. You're welcome. Of the bottom 50 albums, I own three: Linda Ronstadt's Heart Like A Wheel, Jefferson Airplane's Surrealistic Pillow and the Rolling Stones' Some Girls.

These ones are ones that I would consider good whole albums. Lots of the list was good albums with lots of good songs but not the whole album. A lot of the list was complete crap too.

Each of the Monkees' first four albums went to number one and their fifth album reached #3 – and none of them are among that Top 500. Headquarters is one of my favorite albums. Did none of those "300 artists, producers, critics and music-industry figures" ever hear Shades Of Gray?
I have several albums which I consider classics and they are also not on that list. Also the ordering is also suspect in many cases.
One of the few lists where they didn't have a Beatles album #1. I do believe it's the end times.![]()
Let's continue here.
Dark Side was the top selling album of all time, way before The Wall ever existed. You're looking at it through your "post-1977" lens. Personally, I was preparing for college when The Wall came out. So while I appreciated the effort, it was too "teen angst" for me.55. The Dark Side Of The Moon (why is this higher than "The Wall"?)
I'm working on my take on the silly top 500 list. Stay tuned.
