Sadchild's "high fives" (every artist I like at least five songs from)

anouk_1.jpg

Anouk

Genre: pop rock, AC

Discovered: CMJ?

Other: Huge in The Netherlands. Of her 12 albums, only one didn't hit #1 there... and that's the one I like best: from start to finish (it's her hardest rockin' one). Three of the songs below are from it.

1. Everything
2. Margarita Chum
3. Fading
4. Who Cares
5. If I Go

Anthrax

Genre: metal

Discovered: MTV (video for "Antisocial")

Other: I didn't like much the original Belladonna-fronted Anthrax ('84-'90), except for a few of their goofy/fun songs). Too thrashy and "80s metal voice"-y! I prefer the John Bush-fronted Anthrax ('93-'03). Their first album with John, Sound Of White Noise, is one of my fav metal albums of all time. There are, however, a few songs from the second era of Belladonna ('11-present) I definitely like though.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Bring The Noise (w/ Public Enemy) [BELLADONNA]
2. Only [BUSH]
3. Poison My Eyes [BUSH]
4. I'm The Man [BELLADONNA]
5. This Is Not An Exit [BUSH]

Argyle Park

Genre: industrial metal

Discovered: Was already a fan of Klayton (sole member of Celldweller and Circle Of Dust), who was half of the project.

Other: Noisy and abrasive, but creative and interesting.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Violent
2. Leave Me Alone
3. Headscrew
4. Skin Shed
5. Lonely

HIGH FIVE:

1. Mr Wendal
2. Tennessee
3. People Everyday (Mix)
4. Wag Your Tail
5. I'm Ignoring You

Atmosphere

Genre: hip hop

Discovered: CMJ

Other: Their 2008 album When Life Gives You Lemons You Paint That Shit Gold is excellent. 4 of the songs below are from it. But they've got dozens of other songs I like too.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Guarantees
2. Me
3. You
4. Sunshine
5. The Waitress

Awolnation

Genre: alt, alt-rock, alt-pop

Discovered: CMJ

Other: Notice how "Sail" is not in my top 5. Yeah okay it was a cool song but it is way overplayed. And he's got better stuff.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Run (Beautiful Things)
2. Kill Your Heroes
3. Thiskidsnotalright
4. Hollow Moon (Bad Wolf)
5. Passion

B52s

Genre: new wave

Discovered: MTV (video for Channel Z)

Other: Recently rediscovered #5 below, otherwise they wouldn't have been eligible for the High Five list. Also, I'm quite sick of #1.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Love Shack
2. Roam
3. Channel Z
4. Meet The Flintstones
5. Tell It Like It T I Is

How can you talk about the B-52's without mentioning "Rock Lobster"?
Mama always said, if you can't say anything nice don't say anything at all.

I had forgotten about your "Rock Lobster List".

Beastie Boys

Genre: hip hop

Discovered: FM ("Fight For Your Right" like the rest of the world)

Other: Didn't listen to Licensed To Ill start to finish until early '89. Paul's Boutique lost me in the summer of '89. "So Whatcha Want" on MTV got me back in '92. Finally got the genius of Paul's around '94ish?

HIGH FIVE:

1. Shadrach
2. Fight For Your Right
3. Paul Revere
4. Shake Your Rump
5. So Whatcha Want
