Sadchild's "high fives" (every artist I like at least five songs from)

I’ve seen both Al and Rob in concert. Not the same show, but that would have been cool.

I used to listen the Al on Dr. Demento on my old am radio when I was a kid in the late 70’s.

Whitesnake

Genre: hair metal, hard rock

Discovered: FM? Probably "Still Of The Night"

Other: In '88 I listened to their self-titled album a hundred times. I've listened twice since 1989. For whatever reason, I completely lost interest in their sound. I enjoyed their two big singles from the follow-up for a month or two, but aside from that, their sound didn't age well with me. But I can still get into these five songs if they pop up on my SXM once in a while.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Still Of The Night
2. Fool For Your Loving
3. Here I Go Again
4. Is This Love
5. The Deeper The Love

Who

Genre: rock, rock and roll

Discovered: no clue

Other: Another band where I respect them more than I listen to them. They're an important part of rock history, I just rarely go out of my way to hear their music.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Behind Blue Eyes
2. Who Are You
3. Baba O'Riley
4. Eminence Front
5. Substitute

Same here.
A massively important band, but FM radio ruined them for me. They only think the band has 4 songs, and insist that people want to hear one each hour.

I like all those, plus:

Love Reign O'er Me
Going Mobile
Won't get Fooled Again

Bargain
I Can See for Miles

7. Squeeze Box

Will Smith

Genre: hip hop

Discovered: already knew DJ Jazzy Jeff & Fresh Prince

Other: He's best known for Jiggy, Miami, Wild Wild West, Summertime and such, but the only album of his I listen to start to finish is 2005 Lost And Found. It's less about pandering to people about hot topics and more about personal expression and stories. The top 3 below are from it. #1 is about the flak he gets about being 'the nice guy'. #2 is about his ex-wife. #3 is about a stalker.

HIGH FIVE:

1. Mr Niceguy
2. Ms Holy Roller
3. Loretta
4. Gettin Jiggy Wit It
5. Miami

Winger

Genre: hair metal

Discovered: MTV, "Seventeen"

Other: First album was great (a little dated now), second album had a couple songs I liked, DOA by album three. No idea why Mike Judge decided Stuart should wear a Winger shirt. Maybe it was because Lars Ulrich was throwing darts at a photo of Kip in the "Nothing Else Matters" video a year earlier?

HIGH FIVE:

1. Seventeen
2. Madalaine
3. Hungry
4. Easy Come Easy Go
5. Hangin' On

Wings

Genre: rock and roll

Discovered: don't remember, probably FM.

Other: MTV article: "[Billy] Crystal was talking about how young people are idiots (I’m paraphrasing), and to prove it he recounted an awkward exchange with his daughter, when she asked him, without irony, “Daddy, is it true Paul McCartney was in a band before Wings?” The audience howled, not with amusement but unmitigated rage. Their faces went red, the veins on their foreheads throbbing like cartoon exclamation points. With just a little encouragement, they would have happily formed a lynch mob and chased Crystal’s daughter into the countryside with pitchforks and torches, cornering her in a windmill and burning it the ground ... The old guy sitting next to me -- he was probably no older than 50, but he seemed ancient at the time -- kicked the seat in front of him and literally harrumphed, like a Dickens character. “So fucking typical,” he muttered, like Crystal’s daughter had personally insulted everything he held dear. I was actually a little frightened."

HIGH FIVE:

1. With A Little Luck
2. Silly Love Songs
3. Live And Let Die
4. Jet
5. Let 'Em In

My wife likes his Wings work the best. I think I agree with her. I much prefer his Wings songs to his Beatles stuff.

That's cool. First time I've ever heard of people preferring Wings to Beatles. To me, it feels like being told someone likes Joe Perry Project over Aerosmith. But I know for sure I have a few cases too where I prefer a person's 'other' band too, but I can't think of them immediately.

And my fav Macca songs are from his Egypt Station album that came out a few years ago, which I'm sure surprises a lot of people.
