#331 Joey Scarbury "Believe It Or Not"

When I was 10 years old, the idea of little ol' 'just me' suddenly being 'on top of the world' really spoke to me. That feeling may have turned from hope into nostalgia, but the basic idea still lives on somewhere inside me.

Did you ever watch the TV show? It was corney as hell but I liked it. Too bad it didn't stick around long enough to be syndicated.

We were sitting on the beach, I had my bluetooth speaker playing. Listened to Springsteen's greatest hits, some Dire Straits, and a Clapton variety. I can pick about a dozen great songs from each of them. Also from U2, Bowie, Paul Simon, Beck, Paul McCartney, Beatles, Foo Fighters, Dave Mathews Band, Zeppelin, Who, Elton John, Pearl Jam, etc. You get the idea.

I have about 500 CDs and 300 albums. There's at least a couple of great songs from each. There's probably 10 songs I love from LCD Soundsystem, but I don't own anything. My list would be thousands of songs. Just the first 5 Chicago albums has 2 dozen great songs.

So I can't do a list, at least not at this point, where I haven't even started one. Instead, I'm going to think of favorite songs, and post in the order they come to me.

@IdRatherBeSkiing No I never saw the show. If I remember right I saw the opening titles sequence a few time and the 'hero' occasionally yells 'aaaarrgh!! as he crashes into stuff?.

@scotchandcigar It could be argued that making a numbered list of your personal favorite songs is overkill and pointless (but I did it anyway HA!) I like the idea of just having a thread where you drop your fav songs of all time as they come to you. "Scotch's Finest" (see what I did there?)

#330 Bon Jovi "Blood On Blood"

Well, it was me and Danny and Bobby
We cut each other's hands
And held tight to a promise
Only brothers understand

One afternoon in 1995, one of my closest childhood friends, James, left his job at the grocery store. He didn't go home. That night, I got a call from another friend, Dave, explaining that nobody knew where James was, and he'd been missing for several hours. I immediately jumped in my car and drove from NH down to Mass and, by talking to the local convenience store clerks and anybody we could find, we began tracking his steps. He'd spent some time under a bridge. He'd spent some time in a 24 hour donut shop, mumbling to himself. By about 4am, we'd retraced his steps to somewhere around the Liberty Tree Mall in Danvers, MA. I drove home, slept a little, and as I about to drive back down I got a call. "We found him at the mall. He had a nervous breakdown. The death of his grandmother and the stress of his upcoming finals at college was too much. But we've got him".

Today, James lives in a section 8 housing and is on disability. My friend Bob (I talk about his son and his old roommate on the VJ Big 40 thread) and I visited him a couple months ago.

Through the years and miles between us
It's been a long and lonely ride
But if I got that call in the dead of the night
I would be right by your side
...
I'll be here for you
'Til kingdom come
Like blood on blood

The idea was they got the suit from aliens to be good guys. But the teacher loses the instruction manual. Allowed for some funny scenes as he was a bumbling hero.

#329 Eddie Money "Think I'm In Love"

To me, life is a collection of moments and music is the soundtrack to those moments.

I was hanging out late one night with a girl I'd been dating for a few months. After talking for hours, at about 2 in the morning I told her I loved her. It was the first time I'd said it to anyone. She said it back. A little while later I got in my car to drove home. I had Eddie Money's Greatest Hits (Sound Of Money) in the cassette deck, so when I started the car, this song started playing. It was the perfect soundtrack for the ride home, feeling a bit like Judd Nelson at the end of The Breakfast Club. This song still puts me back in that moment.

Music is great that way.
VH's Why Cant This Be Love came on the radio after a date that went particularly well back in the day.
The song doesn't even have to match the mood to work.
Mr. Mister's Broken Wings takes me back to this great girl I met at a party. We went out to her car to talk (no funny business) and that song was on. Whenever I hear it, I wonder what she's up to.

I don't think I knew the Bon Jovi song.

The ACDC song is awesome. I'm so glad I saw those guys in concert, they rock!

Good call on the Eddie Money song too. I like to hear his "other" songs on the radio besides Two Tickets to Paradise, Take Me Home Tonight, and Baby Hold On.

There are about 3 or 4 songs that always remind me of an old girlfriend. They were on when we were on. Of course, I don't have a visible reaction when around my wife. There are songs that remind me of her too of course but for whatever reason not as intense an association. Perhaps its because my wife and I have less common taste in music with each other.

@Aaron That's a deep album track from Bon 'Buns' Jovi (as I've heard girls call him). I think Jovi has some decent hits, but nothing I'd put on an all-time fav list. I was pretty surprised when he had a real heartfelt song about the bond between childhood friends, instead of the usual 'wish I saw you blow out your birthday candles', or the argument at a school dance that ends with holding her 'in my arms so strong'

didn't ac/dc have to fire the drummer for being even crazier than a normal rock star?

@JHDK Yep!

Phil Rudd, the drummer in the Australian rock band AC/DC, was arrested Thursday morning and charged with trying to hire someone to commit murder, threatening murder and possession of methamphetamine and cannabis, the New Zealand news site SunLive reported.

2014? This would be something one might do if one were really stoned and 20 something. In 2014 he should have been old enough to know better.
