Ha, I think Roxanne is awesome, but Every Breath You Take makes me want to hang myself, plus it's a song about a stalker.

It is the sound of it to me. It sounds almost like it could be sung by Rosanne Barr. Every Breath You take sounds smooth and easy to listen to. Actually never really listened to the lyrics.

Everybody's taste is different. I know my wife can't stand any John [Cougar] [Mellemcamp] song except Jack & Dianne. The sound of his voice drives her batty. I pretty much like all his stuff.

The Horse with no name was simply because when I was doing a summer job I was subletting a room from a guy who thought he was a real folk singer and guitar player and he did that song over and over and over and over. Let me tell you he was neither. I still can't hear that song and not want to puke.

John Mellancamp is my wife's favorite performer, she's seen him over 20 times.

I love the Pretenders, but I cannot listen to Brass In Pocket anymore.

They are a super talented group of musicians, but by definition, DMB has plenty of sappy songs. I don't think Crush is sappy, but Satellites sure is. And while Ants Marching might not be sappy, it's corny, and gets way too much airplay.

The Police/Sting wrote lots of creepy songs like the one about the child molester teacher. It's funny that people use the Every Breath one as their wedding song.

Just seeing this thread for the first time. These are off the top of my head, there's probably more.

Going strictly by the thread title (good band sappy song), not the explanation in the first post (which adds that you don't like the song).

Aerosmith "Angel" (and "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" ... which was already posted here)
Extreme "More Than Words" and "Hole Hearted"
Motley Crue "Nona" (and "Without You" ... which was already posted here)
Mr Big "To Be With You" and "Just Take My Heart"
Prince "The Most Beautiful Girl In The World"

Going by the first post explanation.

Earshot "Should've Been There" (yes I'm the only person one here who's heard it)
Train "Play That Song" and "Marry Me"

Since you've resurrected my 2014 thread, I'll add to it.

I love Pearl Jam, but I hate these sappy songs.

This cover just annoys the piss out of me, an instant channel changer

Pearl Jam – Last Kiss

And then they make a cringeworthy original song. I like that they mix it up sometimes, but this is so sappy ...... (wait for it)

Pearl Jam – Just Breathe

...... that it gets covered by Willie Nelson, and it sounds like a Willie Nelson song!

The Beach Boys' third single probably didn't seem sappy in 1962 – but in 2021, amidst all the complaints about "Chief Wahoo" and "Cleveland Indians" and "Washington Redskins" and other supposed slurs against native Americans, it do indeed sound sappy. It surely do.

Poison "Every Rose Has Its Thorn", "I Won't Forget You", "Something To Believe In" and "Life Goes On".

Those four, plus my two previous posts, are going strictly by the thread title. I think they're all okay songs.

It's up to you, as long as they're sappy. REM makes sappy songs I like. Hell, even the Carpenters make good sappy songs. But I've Been Waiting by Foreigner makes me want to stick a hot poker into my ears.

Not bad – but not good, either. Los Lobos, best known for their 1987 remake of Ritchie Valens' La Bamba, released an album of Disney songs in 2009. It included a version of what I consider to be the all-time most annoying Disney song, The Tiki Tiki Tiki Room. Gak!

Gives "It's a Small World" a run for its money.

I'm sure both of you found this thread when I mentioned a sappy song thread. I came across this too, and I actually like this thread's theme better than a generic sappy song thread. I realized the number of generally sappy songs is pretty endless, so it's better to give it a qualifier.

I think my qualifies for the "sappy songs by good bands" theme. Kiss has made a number of great hard rockin' songs. While "Beth" would fit the theme closer since it's by Kiss not just one member, "Beth" is a good song. Gene's remake up there is redonkulously sucky!
