It was one year ago that we were in Monaco for the F1 Grand Prix. It's weird reading about it online, and seeing the drivers arrive and do the practice laps on TV, and thinking that we were there.

Mrs. Scotch felt a little let-down when we hit the anniversary of the day we flew out to Venice to start the trip. Honestly, though, as great as it all was, it took a lot of planning and work to execute it. So I think about how things could've gone bad, and what we had to do to get through it all. And I'm glad we did it and it's over.

As I said, I'm putting together a photo album, based on the stuff we originally put on Facebook, but it'll be much bigger and better. It's a nice way to relive the trip.

Here's a shameless promotion for the rest of the European trip we did one year ago

It's Indy Series, but watching a bit of the Detroit Grand Prix.
That's a crazy tight course.
I've been walking around where they are driving. It's mostly in between the destinations, but still fun to see.
Many years ago, I believe F1 raced in Detroit, before a long hiatus in the US. It's pretty crazy when they fly around places you know.

They're in Montreal this weekend for the Canadian grand prix. That's close enough to where I am that their weather this weekend is the same as what I'm seeing. It gives it that local race feel.

I didn't realize it was in Montreal. I would have tuned in for a couple of laps.
We didn't make it over to the island that it was on, but could see it from other places and a boat when we were there last year.

The likeable "honey badger", who twice finished 3rd in the championship with Red Bull, and who outscored teammates Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen, has once-again been terminated mid-season. I was really rooting for him, but this is what it's like to be in the upper echelon of racing.

To characterize this thread as dead is an understatement; but maybe with Jon back, we can post an occasional observation on the 2025 season, which gets underway this weekend in Australia. Here are the broad storylines, as I see it:

- Lewis Hamilton to Ferrari. The top drivers always want to end their careers at Ferrari. I don't like that Carlos Sainz was pushed out, but it seemed like Lewis's time at Mercedes was done, so it was either this, or retirement.

- Max Verstappen gets a new teammate. Hopefully, Liam Lawson will actually challenge Max, rather than being a reliable 2nd fiddle. I would've preferred that Yuki Tsunoda had been given the seat.

- McLaren came on strong in 2024. Based on their 2nd half of the season, they could be the team to beat. Mercedes and Ferrari were also competitive with Red Bull in the 2nd half, so it could shape-up to be a close battle for race wins.

- About a third of the drivers are either rookies, or were rookies in 2024. So that will also add interest to the mix.

I don't have an absolute favorite driver. My last one was Sebastian Vettel. Despite Max having 4 consecutive titles, and being somewhat of an asshole at times, I don't dislike him. I think he's the genuine article. But that being said, I'd like to see any of the following scenarios:

- Lewis wins with Ferrari. I was so sick of seeing Mercedes dominate for all those years, but maybe he can win and say good-bye.
- Charles LeClerc wins for Ferrari. The odds are high that the 2 Ferrari drivers will split the points, making it hard to get the driver's championship.
- Lando Norris wins for McLaren.
- Oscar Piastri wins for McLaren. Again, if these 2 split the points, that will make it harder for both of them.
- George Russell wins for Mercedes.

Less likely possibilities:
- Max and Liam split the points for Red Bull.
- Yuki Tsunoda wins with RB.
- Carlos Sainz wins with Williams. It's possible that Carlos and Alex Albon split points for Williams, but I don't think there will be many points to split.
- I love Fernando Alonso, and I think he's amazing for his age. It's possible with Adrian Newey as designer, Aston Martin will step-up. But I doubt it.

Looking forward to seeing what Hamilton does with Ferrari, although not sure how I'll get to see any of it with my current situation, but hopefully that clears up soon. I was just as sick of seeing Verstappen win practically every race the last few seasons, respect the hell out of his legend, but still.

On my bucket list is to attend a F1 race in person. Maybe one day.

Like I said, Max won only 2 of the last 14 races in 2024. And the other 12 were won by 3 different teams, so based on that, it should be a competitive season.

I've been to Monaco, as you know, and also the US grand prix when it was at Indy. You're pretty close to Austin. Maybe Vegas too.

You don't currently have any live TV options?
Unfortunately still unemployed, but close on a few things. We'll see.

Beyond that I really don't want to pay extreme prices for YTV or Hulu Live since their rates keep going up. Once I am ready I'll probably get F1.TV or ESPN+. Probably the former since my sports viewing beyond F1, EPL and my local Denver teams has decreased.

It's just the start of the season, but that's what people are talking about. It's because of how he was chosen over Tsunoda in particular.

Maybe you're right, that they'll give him most of the season. We'll see.

The Chinese GP was the first of this season to start with a sprint. Lewis got his first win with Ferrari, by winning the sprint, followed by Oscar (McLaren), Max (Red Bull), and George (Mercedes).

But in the race, it was McClaren 1, 2, followed by George and Max. The 2 Ferraris were behind, but then were both disqualified. Liam Lawson was near back of the pack for Red Bull, in both the sprint and race.
