The Musical Instrument Thread

Gotta love capitalism!
The Mrs doesn't harp on me for spending money. We pay our bills, put some into savings, and don't live extravagantly or beyond our means. But after buying my ESP, she might give me a look for buying the Reverend hollow body I'm looking at......until.....we booked another wedding shoot for next month. $$$$. After the Reverend, there isn't anything else I'm looking for.

Unless I find a Steinberger L with the graphite body.....

Yeah, but you're DINKs. Double income, no kids. We're one income (a non-profit salary, I might add), plus what she makes working at a preschool 20 hours a week during the school year, and have two kids. I'm not complaining, mind you, and I feel very, very lucky to have the job I do. We used to be DINKs, and it was an easier life. But kids are amazing. I'm a dad. You can't beat that.

I just purchased the aforementioned pickguard with my spoils. It looks kinda like this, but not exactly, since they're all hand-made and no two are the same. Each individual pickguard is shown on the website, and mine was taken down as soon as I ordered it.

Here's the info on the pickguard: Tor-Tis™ Pickguards

And here's the dude that makes them. He also makes guitars in the $5k-$10k range. You know--Walmart beaters. :: Greven Guitars Home ::

DINK by choice. I choose to use my gift for the greater good.
Actually, most people get a look of relief, and then thank me when I say I'm not breeding. Meh.....

The pick guard site is pretty cool. Lots of cool parts and whatnot. I have a rock maple neck blank and a truss rod I bought back in 85 or so, never got around to building from scratch. One of these days.

You can get good, cheap bodies from guitarfetish.com, in various states of finish: bare wood, painted, etc.

I'll build 100% from scratch for the next project. (Sans electronics.) I've got the maple blank for the neck and a truss rod, the body will be the easy part. The neck makes me nervous though. It sure ain't going to be any time soon though. Too much going on to get into a major project for a while. (So don't pester me about it CF.) ;)

Got it done and it's a world of difference from what it was. The guy at the counter noticed the action the minute I walked in the door. Had the bridge filed down, truss rod adjusted, new strings and only out $25. Not bad!

They also recommended a place online that sells NOTHING but lefty guitars, Southpaw Guitars out of Texas. I'll look at that later.

What, me pester?

Okay, because I'm a man of my word--check that. Doctors are fairly certain that I'm biologically a male mammal. At any rate, here is a halfway decent take of me playing the intro to Three Dog Night's "Shambala." Halfway, mind you. I don't claim decency.

Wait.....do that again......

Good job. With Jon's axe set up, I think we should be seeing a little snip of something from Colorado.....

Thanks. Yeah...that's basically the whole song. Wash, rinse, repeat. I was happy to get the riff down once on video.

Rocky Mountain Way, on electric, including all of Joe's soloing. Should only take Jon a day or two to master note for note.

Here you go, Jon. An electric and an amp with some distortion is required! This is fun as hell to play, by the way.
