Give your old guitar a good cleaning. Lemon oil the fretboard, polish the body, and put some new strings on it.
It'll give you something to focus on. That, and you won't be messing with the old one for a while.
You can hit the local guitar shop and pick up some supplies while you're waiting too. A new cable, strap, strings, picks, a tuner, song books. You know, the basics.

Good luck. The last couple of days are a killer.

Here is a pic of what I'm pretty sure is my ukulele in construction. Creedy #59, "Star Dust." (He names all of them. I hope it has stars inlaid on the fretboard. I like stars.)

On a less positive note, I happened to test the Xbox I had just sold on eBay before I went to ship it, and of course it didn't work, even though it had worked before my son and I bought our new Xbox. So that was $27 less toward the ukulele fund which I had to refund to the buyer. He was cool about and thanked me for testing it again.

Dig! Are the threaded rods a clamp that's pushing down on the dowels and the sound board ribs? I dig the (what looks like) walnut strips in the headstock.

That's exactly what the threaded rods/dowels are--a big clamp to hold down the braces on the top. It looks unwieldy but I've seen lots of luthiers use it. Yeah, the headstock looks pretty good so far.

More pics of the uke in progress. That's either a light cedar top (most likely) or spruce. Like I said, this guy makes what he wants. I like the rope rosette.

I dunno. I think the color would give it away if we saw it IRL. You'll notice the rosewood fretboard is definitely rosewood colored in that shot of the headstock, but in the shot that shows the top, it's gray. It looks like his camera and his shop lights are washing out the reds, in which case the top would be oranger, like cedar.

But I have no idea.

So, I got the Les Paul today. It is super nice! A real beauty. And that new guitar smell!

The e-tune system is impressive... went from standard tuning to Open G tuning in about 10 seconds.
But, typical guy here, should not have gone to alternate tuning before first reading the manual. Took me about 15 minutes to figure out how to bring it back to standard tuning!

Pics to follow soon.
