The Musical Instrument Thread

Oh, you'll breed, all right. I plan to harvest your DNA, combine it with membag's and create a mutant army of guitar-playing, Miata-driving architect coders. With bicycles.

One of my big goals (at least on the acoustic) is to take a song that you would think has no business being played on acoustic guitar, and making an acoustic version of it. Something like Sneaker Pimps '6 underground' or Moby's 'Porcelain' which is mostly electronic based. I think either would make very good acoustic versions if one could do it right.

I've been tinkering with some techno songs reworking them so they can be played live with guitars and a live drummer. I have a good start on the Knife Party tune from the catch of the day thread.

At the moment, with Black Dog firmly in hand, I'm playing Sweet Home Alabama.

I pretty much want to learn all those classic rock riffs that everybody ought to know.

I've almost got Oye Como Va down pat (Chords and solo). Not all the way there yet but pretty close. Marty Schwartz has a nice lesson on YouTube. I'll be looking at that.

No posts in 11 days? Is Aaron's new Les Paul collecting dust? Is Jon's strat not wailing? Is Hectic's Toledo Toothpick the weirdest thing you've ever seen? Yes. Yes it is. That much we know. Well, in addition to my grindcore ukelele-ing (I'm trying these strings. They're amazing. Infused with copper dust to make the string denser without increasing the diameter. That makes for a fatter, louder tone.), I've been classic rock-riffing. I have some Journey on my iPod, and today while running I was totally grooving on the little bluesy riff in "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" in this tab:

journey.webp

I've been fooling around with it tonight, trying to make little passing licks from A to D to E. I'll get out my notebook and figure out why the notes sound good tomorrow (warning: music theory content).

I'm trying to learn some of the bits from Paradise City.
I wish I could get the intro to sound more like the intro.

One of my old bands played Lovin Touchin Squeezin. It wasn't too hard once you get the groove.

Spent the last couple of weeks learning new tunes for the band. We're trying New Girl Now(Honeymoon Suite) Sex On Fire, Paralyzer, Fire Woman, and the Power Station version of Bang A Gong.

I need to practice more to play it quicker.
And still playing around with the amp settings to get closer to that sound.
Plus the tabs are telling me to tune down 1/2 step.
I think Slash pretty much always played down a half-step. I learned 'Used to Love Her' which is played down half-step. It doesn't sound right at standard tuning.
