The Musical Instrument Thread

After our last practice, the lead guitarist texted me and said we need to look for a new bass player, because the hearing loss ours has is making him impossible to work with. Combine that with the fact that he's a little strong-willed to begin with and he doesn't like our drummer, and he's a PITA at time. But he also provides our practice space and sings about 2/3 of our stuff. We're sticking with him until our June gig. After that, I don't know. He needs to get hearing aids or we need to learn to communicate better with him or something. #banddrama

i know you've posted pics that are pretty cool but i dont care. when i hear you talk about being in a band i picture this.

It's really damned nice. I'm not used the the 10's that are on it, even though my Pete Anderson has them.
I guess it's the feel of the body that makes it different, and I don't tend to play the faster stuff on the PA.
I dig it. I'll play it for a week or two, and if all is well, I'll mount the midi pickup on it.

I'm digging the new git. Just getting used to it. The neck is a little thicker than I'm used to, but still comfortable. The variety of tones that come out of it with the bass contour control, and the split pickups is excellent. I mounted the external version of the midi pickup tonight to make sure that it's in the ideal spot before I risk any modifications that will leave permanent marks on it. So far, so good. I may try 9's on it again too.
 
I found it on Reverend's website. Looks like a pretty versatile machine. That Epi LP I just bought at Christmas has split-coil pickups too. I don't use the feature much but it does add to the possibilities.
 
It's a versatile machine indeed.
You take the range it has already built in, add the synth pickup, and it becomes an intergalactic starship of versatility.

I just got my new slide in the mail today.
It's a jet-slide. I ordered it as a risk. I wanted to try one in person, but no stores around here have them.
I got lucky, it's really pretty good. It's not difficult to get used to, and I have a lot more control of the thing than my glass slip on slides.

Do you have to flip it up and down with your pinky every time?

I have a slide that I got primarily to play one little piece in "Happy" by the Stones. I like the sound of slide but I haven't played it much. Our guitarist keeps a strat in open tuning for a couple of songs that we do that he plays slide on.
 
For the most part, when you are your pinky off the tab, it moves on its own. The bent part rests against the web between your fingers, and it's a bit like a spring. It doesn't take much motion to swing your pinky back over the tab to roll the slide back into playing position. For $19 I was worried it would be awkward or more hassle to use, but I'm glad I took the chance on it. I've got a couple of glass slides, but I don't find them very comfortable. They are bulky, and tend to wiggle around making them not very accurate. I've got skinny fingers with fat knuckles, so they aren't form fitting. The jet slide is very natural feeling and ergonomic to me. It's more of a relaxed way for the hand fit on the neck. We're playing Ain't No Rest for the Wicked by Cage the Elephant. Slide doesn't get any easier than that, but I might actually stand a chance of learning some slide stuff with this thing.
