What an absolutely crazy thing to do! For all he knew, he could've just plunged to his death. He must've been in major trouble to do that. It's also interesting that there's a camera on the bridge to capture it.

He was driving a stolen car. But this also means he doesn't care if the car gets damaged on the landing.

This is a fantastic, feel good story.

Aspiring sheriff who killed 14-year-old daughter's rapist has murder charge dropped Aspiring sheriff who killed daughter's rapist has charge dropped via US Home | Daily Mail Online

Dude running for sheriff in this random town found his daughter being molested by some dude so he immediately killed the dude. Instead of being hailed as a hero, he was charged with murder but the case was just thrown out because somehow the police department just happened to lose a crucial piece of evidence which was the SD card in his dashcam. What a crazy turn of events that the police would just so happen to lose that.

This is pretty awesome. I'm just finishing the article now:

Moments later, Spencer opened fire until he ran out of bullets, then jumped on the man and pistol-whipped him, according to police.

So after he emptied his mag in the dude he then jumped on top of him and pistol whipped him. This dad reacted 100% appropriately to this situation and should have never been charged with anything. He should have been given the key to the goddamn city.

In legal terms, the force after the first bullet (assuming it hit) would be considered excessive.

It is a shame about the SD card though.

But aren't police.......and I don't know what this guy's background is, but he was running for sheriff so I assume he has some sort of law enforcement background........ Taught that once they begin shooting they should keep shooting until they 100% know the threat is neutralized?

I'm pretty sure that's what they're taught down here. I don't know about Canada, but I would imagine it's the same thing.

So, in a completely different circumstance (this guy deserved more than one mag being empty in him) it would still be justified even if he the shooter is a civilian at the time? I have no idea. I'm just wondering this shit out loud.

If he was a cop, then in order to shoot legally he needs to see a gun or harm being committed with no other less lethal method to stop him. Once you pass the threshold for firing I think you can fire until the threat is neutralized. But if he was in the role of a citizen which he likely was in this situation I don't think the same rules apply. Of course some states have very lenient stand your ground laws and those may factor in although it sounds like this is not the case as he as charged.
