Back during the Mother's Day flood of 2006, I drove for miles around closed roads, to buy my wife a Keurig, because that's what she wanted. We've always been a whole-bean-grinding family, but she decided it would be better and more convenient. I think it lasted a month before it got resigned to backup reserve duty for when we had company over.

Our Kitchenaid blade grinder got dull, and I spent a long time looking at burr grinders. But the mess, size, cost and complexity deterred me, so I got another Kitchenaid. The stainless grind cup pops out, so it's easy to dump the ground coffee into the filter. I love the Cuisinart "coffee on demand" system. The carafe is internal, so you just put your mug in, press the lever, and fill-er-up. It even has a fuel gauge.

We also know a local guy who designed and manufactures his own coffee brewing device, called Multibru, which looks like this

He funded it through kickstarter.
Multibru - a simple way to brew a great cup of coffee or tea by Mike Lancey — Kickstarter

We have one, and it's a good product. It's a stand-alone device (non-electric). You put hot water in the top part, and the ground coffee is in the part below it. The valve allows you to let the coffee steep, or drip slowly, or pour. So you can make it work like a french press, for example.

that's a neat video. he had some loyal backers. almost 100% of them gave $75 or more. now of course $75 was the level where you actually got one of the devices but that's still pretty good.

this morning was finally the day i had to bite the bullet and buy a new keurig machine. for months now i had to only fill my current machine's water reservoir half way otherwise it would make a god awful noise when it pumped the water from the reservoir into the heating element. that wasn't so bad. but this morning i made one cup and got nothing but wet grounds in the cup. i made a second cup and the stream that fills the cup was more like a trickle. same thing happen when i tried a 3rd cup.

so i decided to get the k250.

it was relatively cheap on amazon at $84. i wanted one that had both a screen and a water reservoir and this was the cheapest option that met both those criteria. i've had my current machine for something like 3+ years and i use it everyday so i guess it had a long enough life. lets hope this new one lasts even longer.

bring it out to your car, put it on your dashboard and take a pic for me! :)
That reminds me of this.

On the BMW forum, there's a sub-forum about watches, and these guys are fond of taking pics of their watches in their cars, with the interior in the background. I think it's absolutely the most dickwad thing a person can do, especially since it's on a BMW forum, so everyone knows you have a BMW, and everyone else on the forum has a BMW. This is one of many reasons that BMW drivers have a reputation for being assholes.

i had an adventure today.

last night i noticed a smell in my condo. it smelled a bit like something burning but i have a smoke detector that didn't go off so i figured maybe it would just go away. then when i go to take a shower today the water wasn't very hot so i checked my water heater. after opening it up it turned out its thermostat had blown and that smell was some of the insulation burning. my a/c unit is right above my water heater so i guess some water dripped down onto it causing it to short. after a bit of research i found the model thermostat i needed and went and picked one up, installed it and now i have nice hot water again with no burning smell.

i know it's not the most complicated stuff but i'm still proud of myself for figuring it all out and installing it. i'm basically a certified handyman/electrician now.

Everybody is a certified handyman and electrician until their house goes up in flames. Hopefully you avoid that. :)
